I'm coming back to E30's and I imagine this has been said loads of times, this place was/is great. I can't for the life of me see why Facebook has taken over

I can understand the photos thing but everything on Facebook just gets lost straightway and is nothing like the Zone. I really hope that things can somehow go back to how they were.

Its happening to a lot of forums, Facebook is easier to access via a mobile it links with social media etc etc and to be honest if you want to run a site you now do it on FB as the hosting fees and maintenance of a website can be crippling. FB will also scan what is being posted to data trawl and use the information to sell on as that is where they make the real money.

I'm happy that I can still come here and get an (accurate) answer for my problems or a part for my car. That's all I care about really. There will always be enthusiasts for all the other areas (social, technical, banter etc) elsewhere should we need it.

Obviously over the years plenty of members have got rid of their E30s so that accounts for a certain amount of absentees but surely not enough to render this place as quiet as it is. Sometimes 3 or 4 hours can pass without anyone making a new post, that was unthinkable a few years ago

i think steve is working on photo hosting so fingers crossed on that part.

the thing with FB is folk nowadays want an instant reaction to anything they post no matter how small, if you look at some of the car pages on there folk think that by posting their (scrap) "show" car that they'll somehow become "famous" they want instant recognition from their "peers".

if any of the numptys off FB found their way here i think they would soon leave crying & slagging the place off.

what doesn't help is folk who are team members on here & the FB page spend most of their time on FB & yet do nothing to promote this place, so what's the point of them being admin on here if they ever post or try to promote the place??

the admin team need to make an effort to push this place, promote every way they can, otherwise it'll end up like e30tech did for a long while & i'm damn sure we don't want that.

Not being a FB user I didn't know that, I just assumed they had all drifted away, with a couple of exceptions. Not really cool that the zone admin' have deserted.

Its not just forum time that I'm missing out on, I've barely been to any shows or meets this year.

There are still a few team members about doing stuff in the background just because you don't see us, don't mean we're not about. We do have a FB team, some of which are team members here as well.

Like Barry said, we all have real life priories and still have to pay the bills, I would love to run the Zone full time but until I win the lottery it's not going happen

i know that there a few team members doing stuff in the background i'm not doubting that, but the point i was trying (& failing) to make was that the only team members that seem to be the most active are, yourself, lain, Phil, brain, Barry & (dare i say it? lol) kos,

but where's the raft of "new" team members that were added in the last two years?? they come on all guns blazing then disappear off to FB to become team members,

as for the FB team, no offence but the only admin i prominent on there are the likes of lain & Keith & when you've got time yourself.

also, like you say we all have a real life to lead, bills to pay family's to look after.
i know you would love to run this place full time & i'm more than gratefull to you for keeping it going.

if it wasn't for this place & it's wealth of knowledge then i'm damn sure there be a lot more e30's being broken for parts because of the smallest thing.

as i said before, i dont want to see this place go the same way as e30tech did (even though its now back).

i'm really looking forward to seeing the new updated zone, hopefully it can pull in some more members & gt back to how it was.
