What is the meaning of Cat. D, with regards to crashed cars ? Fixable, but can you get this classification lifted, so the car's history is clean again ? And if so, how do you do this ?

If it is a CAT D it is the lowest form of a write off by the insurance company. Generally the insurance companies issue CAT D if it is beyond econmocial repair, meaning it is cheaper for them to pay out on the car instead of repairing it for you.
If the insurance company have issued a CAT D and the car requires a VIC check you will never be able to take the car off the HPI register as a CAT D. If the car is sold as a CAT D and a VIC check isn't required then it will not be on the HPI register. Generally this happens if the car is insured third party and resold damaged.
