Car Stolen: BMW E30 325 convertible H182JLB
Moderator: martauto
Hi,
After having my previous E30 convertible totalled by a drug dealer, my replacement car has been stolen after only 2 months.
Literally losing hope with the world, thinking its not even worth the hassle anymore.
VIN number is VIN: WBABB22080EC15981
If anyone comes across the car do let me know. If its being sold for bits please do look out for the VIN.
Drivers side bolster on the natural interior was worn through the leather, and into the foam below.
Let me know if there are any other details which would be worth me posting up. I know the cars go into a garage and stripped, so dont have any hope in seeing this one ever again.

Bad news. Was it taken from the roadside or a garage?

THEY WON'T. I have yet to come across any E30* fitted with an OE or aftermarket alarm or immobiliser that can't be dealt with in seconds, if you know what you're doing.masd wrote: the alarm and immobiliser did little to stop whoever it was riding off with the car.
I've posted on here before how to connect a simple switch to SHORT CIRCUIT the power feed to the fuel pump, not isolate it, which will blow fuse 11 if not switched off before attempting to start the car, and I am certain this will stop nearly all 'drive away' thefts.
* Except those fitted with M5x engines complete with EWS.

It's quite simple. The fuel pump is fed by a green/purple wire that comes down through the duct under the fusebox into the cabin behind the glovebox, before disappearing behind the footwell loudspeaker panel, and going to the back of the car along the LH inner sill.
Find this wire behind the glovebox/speaker panel, splice a piece of wire onto it, connect another piece of wire to the main earthing stud also behind the glovebox, and run these two wires to an E30 heated rear window switch with the logo rubbed off.
Position this switch somewhere where it looks like it should be, so that it won't cause any suspicion, except amongst the most fanatical OEM types.
Turn the switch on when you leave the car, and off before you crank the engine. If the switch is left on, fuse 11 blows as soon as the engine turns, probably allowing the engine to start and then die a few seconds later.
At this point, most would be thieves will scarper, having already made some noise, but those that stay, work out that the fuel pump is immobilised, would probably try to jump power to it at the plug and socket under the rear seat cushion, but, if the switch is still on, this would just result in a very hot jump wire, and still no working pump.

Literally, if I do bother getting another one I will have to go with Brians switch recommendation, and install a professional tracker. I imagine I should even start sticking a clamp on the wheel(s) and a bear trap under the drivers door.
