New member so please excuse ignorance. I think the 325i Sport is amazing looking but would love one with more performance. Does the Alpina upgrade option I have read about make a material improvement? Are they rare as hen's teeth? Thanks for any comments/ advice shared.

Search the market for Alpina E30s and I think there's only one for sale, which was to be auctioned. Not often they come up and they are strong money. The wiki on here has info on models etc.

Hi. Thanks for replying. Congratulations on your garage of cars. I actually meant a 325i Sport with Alpina options to upgrade engine not a full Alpina e30. I have read of these cars. Thanks anyhow. Anthony

Alpina had a full range of engine upgrade options dependant on the model. If you want over 200 Bhp, easiest way is deploy an m52b28.

If you are talking about the 'Alpina sport pack' it was a UK only 192BHP engine upgrade available for any 325i from September 87 build date and used the same engine spec as the post sept 87 build C2.5 (often badged C2 2.5) which comprised of 268 degree camshaft, Alpina ECU and Alpina exhaust system.
This upgrade was designed to be fitted by Any BMW dealer and I have heard of them being fitted when new to cars supplied new by Sytner Nottingham, John Clarke Aberdeen, L&C Tunbridge wells and L&C Croydon.
I used to own a Sytner Nottingham Supplied 325i Cabrio which had a lot of factory options as well as the 'Alpina Sport pack'.
Yes it made a noticeable difference and would be a nice thing to have but they are incredibly rare, never come up for sale as a package of used parts and none of it is available new any more.
The best way to get a similar performance upgrade would be a schrick 272 camshaft, a BTB six branch manifold and a BBR star chip. This should get you to approx. 190bhp on a heathly M20B25, even more on an early high compression ratio M20B25.
This is not a cheap upgrade though and there are cheaper ways to get more power (if you can do the work yourself) such as the previously mentioned M52 engine swap but with the values of 325i sports being what they are, they really need to keep their M20 engine.
