Just wondering if anyone has experience buying on ebay.de? I've won a heckblende for a reasonable price but the guy wants an iban payment as he doesn't use paypal. As far as I know I don't get the same buyer protection as I would when using paypal.

He has over 1000 positive feedback. What do you guys think?

I've been in the same boat a few times now, mainly on eBay.kleinzeigen.

The Germans always seem a little reluctant to sell to UK buyers, and from experience, always insist on bank transfer.

In this country, a request for bank transfer sets alarm bells ringing, but
I think it must be normal over there. I have never had an issue with sellers from Germany / Belgium / Holland, and never had items not turn up.

I got a little concerned once with a seller in Belgium. (took a little longer than expected to be sent a tracking number) but sure enough, the item arrived exactly as described.

In my case, it's always been an unobtainable NOS item, so Ive always gone with it even if my instincts say otherwise.

Will you find another one?

i've bought stuff from germany/belgium/poland etc plenty of times through ebay,

never had any problems & the items seem to arrive quicker than if bought from the UK.

example, bought an engine support beam through ebay, was £35 + £10p+p but in the uk it was over £80 +p&p, took under a week to get here, yet a mate bought one from the UK & it took nearly a fortnight to arrive.

if i can't find what i want in the UK i always then look on ebay.de
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

The fees for bank transfers abroad can make these transactions much more expensive in my experience. That's how they roll though.

Loads of German Bayers use Bank Transfer, it's normal here, especially with good positive feedback. You should only pay 4 quid max for a 500 quid transfer, or your bank is having you on.

Thanks for all the advice. I was a bit concerned but from searching google it seems paypal is not a popular option in germany for some reason. My bank charges £9 which isnt that bad.

Out of interest those of you who own a heckblende, what would you sell it for?

I've got one and if I was to sell it I'd be looking for £250.

IBAN and BIC are used for both domestic, and international transfers - and you don't need to accept paypal as a payment option if selling on eBay.de. Still need to look at a sellers feedback though.

If you're going to be doing this regularly, I'd highly recommend setting up a currencyfair.com account. It will give you excellent FX rates, and its cheap and easy to transfer cash in and out. Think its EUR2 for a transfer out, free to transfer in, and you get a better rate as mentioned.
