M20b25 pre face lift cooling system.
Gauge sitting at 1\2 to 3\4.
new water pump
new thermostat 80c
new borg viscous fan coupling.
Should the viscous fan lock up and be loud on first start up as my new one does not, also i can stop the fan with some rolled up paper at over 1\2 way on temp gauge.
do you think my new viscous coupling is no good its from euro car parts so not sure how long its been sat on the shelf and dont know if its been stored correctly.
am i chasing a problem that does not exists im thinking its bloody cold out there and my car is still getting very hot so it will get even hotter in the summer.
iv ordered a ir heat gun temp sensor to see how hot its getting.

Really
it was £ 80, they was a cheaper one for £45
thought it would be pretty good quality for that price.

Viscous coupling should not lock up on start up or at any other time until the engine just begins to overheat, but new couplings are often noisy for a few hundred miles, until the centre bearing loosens up.
Under what conditions do you think your engine is overheating?
Have you checked the small brass nut on the back of the instrument cluster, right behind the gauge, is secure?

Need to tighten the brass nut on the back of the gauge from what iv read on here.
