Was out checking the fluid levels in the car a minute ago, and noticed this sticker, on the off-side strut top...

Image

Picture was take on the camera phone for quickness..
What it says is more or less "replacement echange" then a series of fields (Km/Dat) that havent been filled in.

Does this mean its had a replacement engine? Or did they all have this sticker so to document the engine if it had been replaced?

Or am i confusing "echange" with engine, when it really means something else....?

Thanks, Colin.

It for logging when the cam belt was changed.

The 6 words at the top are just "Replacement" in different languages. KM=Kilometers belt changed Dat=Date changed

Don't worry too much
This is a sticker to indicate when the rubber timing belt has been changed.
when it's done the fitter should note the mileage and date so it can be replaced again when the specified mileage/time has elaspsed. As the dates and mileages haven't been filed in, obviously you are none the wiser for the sticker - but it may indicate it has been replaced

I think it's replacement is due every 60 000 miles or 4 years (whichever comes first) or so, but if you've owned the vehicle for a few years and not had it changed get it replaced and it is a good investment to replace the water pump at the same time as it is the procedure of removal and refitting (and water pumps do fail) so replace it while it is easy to do so and it may save money/frustration in the future.

REPLACING THIS BELT IS VERY IMPORTANT AT SOME STAGE OTHERWISE THE BELT MAY BREAK AND ENGINE WILL BE SERIOUSLY WOUNDED

Cheers for that lads.

Im led to believe the belt was replaced just before i bought the car, but then again, the seller could just have been saying that, so as you say, none the wiser.

Cheers

It would be safer to assume that it needs changing now if you have no proof of when it was changed.

Any excuse to make the current engine go pop though, then its 6-pot time

But aye, i agree it might be worth getting it checked out..
