Hi,
I Have an E reg 318i with only 54k on the clock but its getting a bit rusty underneath and had a bit of welding for its MOT a couple of years ago so looks a bit of a mess underneath.
The bonnet, doors etc are in good nick and I have a tidy interior.
If I bought a mint (or at last a tidier) shell, and swapped the engine, interior etc etc over, can I just inform the DVLA of a new chassis number?

What "makes" the car? (i.e chassis no, No. Plate e

Definately not!
You will have to inform them of the new engine into your new shell, and change the logbook for that shell to have your engine number, and then you will be on the new car.
The identity of the vehicle ALWAYS lies with the shell.
The only time the shell can be changed is if its for a brand new shell that has never before had an identity.

You can cut the floor out of one and weld it into the other (providing its not the bit with the numbers on, lol), or you can remake it by patching it up, or the panel may even be available, thats all fine, you are allowed to do that.dobbie82 wrote:ok thanks, sorry if i appear thick!!!

Thanks for the replies
oh well, looks like a lottery win is required..
Dad can weld, but i doubt he would be impressed at doing it!

Edit your post to say "ex husband" instead of husband, and you will get loads of people offer to help probably, LOL
Seriously though, from what ive seen on here, glenn would be a good person to ask to have a look at it for you.
