Hello, my Touring from 1991 is getting a bit rusty around the tailgate window and it probably need new seals. I tried searching a couple of sites for them but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone where I can get my hands on them? I'd appreciate.

I was planning on taking the window out and put all new seals all way around, and of course get rid of the rust and paint it.

Thanks, but you wouldn't know where I could order them online instead of going to the dealership?

Another option (and possibly best) is to not bother with the lower seal at all and fill the gap with a sealer. I was recommended one of the Silkaflex black sealers in a thread on here - but can't remember which one off the top of my head.
Done well, the sealer will fill the gap completely and not let water sit below the window, which is the main cause of the rust. You would obviously need to start with a non rusty tailgate.

I can't remember who suggested it (possibly Brianmoooore) but it was said that with the correct sealer it can be smoothed and shaped to look like the rubber seal.Cloggy Saint wrote:Filling the lower channel with sealer is probably the best option but it will always look a bit DIY in my opinion.
I've got the sealer and new tailgate stored away but I'm yet to tackle it.
I was also thinking about filling the gap with sealer and then pushing a new seal into place but although that would stop the water collecting under the seal, it won't stop the problem of the seal shrinking - which would look bad after time.

I thought about this too but didn't do it for the same reason. Considering the lower seal has a useful life span of less than a year it really should be much cheaper than it is!jmc330i wrote: I was also thinking about filling the gap with sealer and then pushing a new seal into place but although that would stop the water collecting under the seal, it won't stop the problem of the seal shrinking - which would look bad after time.

Mines seal less and not getting filled. I think even filling with sealant would cause rust underneath eventually.
