Hi all, I currently own an E46 320ci, but I want to trade it in for an E30 project. I love the E46 but it isn't that fun to drive, is locking up a lot of my cash and doesn't sound great. Any advice for what to look out for and the differences I might not have considered between the e46 and e30? Looking for a 325i (maybe convertible..?) and want to work on it myself, i don't have much / any experience but am keen to learn! Any advice really appreciated! Have a garage, some tools and time to put into it.

Rust is the main thing. Mechanically they are very simple and easy to work on, but rot is neither cheap or easy to fix

As above. Rust is the main thing, and paint is expensive as well.
Search through this site and learn where it likes to hide.
Don't worry to much about the mechanical bits - I'm not overly fussed is an E30 has even got an engine when I buy one.
Engines can easily be changed, and suspension can be rebuilt, without too much cost and effort, but extensive rot takes skills and time.
