insured on a classic policy, I pulled out of a bay on a main road and a car coming down clipped the side...

wing, bumper, valance, control arm, rack, tie rods,

the op car isn't badly damaged, just wondering if I should pay for the repairs. its basically a front bumper on a 57 corsa and spray.

My one is gonna be a bit more but can probably DIY...

Don't know if I should go insurance repair or DIY tbh, at least if I do it I can take my time and do it right, and finding new wings/ bumpers etc for an e30 im assuming isn't gonna be easy or cheap for insurance...

The repair is easy enough for an insurance company, all the parts are available from BMW.

Be careful if you do go through insurance as they wont hesitate to write off an old car!!

Well just spoke to the op, they said they don't mind if repairs are paid for, so we'll see how much it comes to, mine I'm assuming I can sort out as diy, got it back now anyway which is the main thing,

Is it all cut and dried that you are at fault here? If you were moving at the time, it probably is, but just because your car is sticking out from a parking bay into the road doesn't mean it's automatically all your fault. He had an obligation to avoid an accident by missing you. He was the one with the full visibility of the situation.

sort of assume so as he was passing me on the right I was indicating, but I sort of came out as he was there and we made contact.

Basically the car isn't even worth 2.5k thats an insurance price via autodex, his cars driveable and perfectly fine essentially just a bumper/wing could send him elsewhere to get priced up or just pass him some cash and draw up an agreement, dont know if this would be feasible

It may well be worth getting a proper quote from a body shop.
2.5K sounds way too much for the damage you described.
Especially seeing as many modern vehicles have plastic wings now!

Sounds like he might have been "driving without due care" to me. If this does end up in the hands of insurance companies, don't roll over and admit liability - it sounds like there may be blame on both sides, and could end up as a "knock for knock" settlement, where each party's insurance pays for the damage to their own client's car.
Very common result around here, with most of the roads being too narrow for cars meeting each other to pass. Nearly taken out this afternoon by some silly tart on the school run coming around a 90 bend I was approaching, far too fast. If I'd been 5 metres further on we'd have hit, through no fault of mine, but I would definitely have ended up paying for my own damage.

hmm possibly, however only thing about insurance is the long process, Ive got parts coming in next week from BMW and have spoken to someone about getting it sprayed up,

Basically need the car for a wedding early June, id prefer to just settle it if I can just send cash, if they urm and ah, then il just go down the route,

You pay for insurance for a reason, and this is a very good reason to let them deal with it

fix your car and get an invoice forward it to your insurer. the other guy will be FC so let the insurance companies argue it out
