Lack of the management light won't be the problem, but not being able to tell if it would be lit if fitted might be. Engine might well be in a power restricted mode.

Get a scanner connected to it, and check for fault codes.
Do you have the road speed signal connected to the ECU, IIRC, this engine sulks if it is missing, and I don't think it throws a code.

From your other thread....
jmc330i wrote:As above, first get the fault codes read (fix issues and clear codes if needs be) and get the adaptions cleared. Clearing the adaptions on mine made it a different car.

As far as I know no faults but will get it in again this week.yes it's connected. Just this guy thinks this wire controls a lot to do with how the engine runs . He mention the vanous unit . The car does drive ok but thinks with this done I should see a lot of difference .

Never had an engine management light connected on my S50B30. It made just shy of 300bhp.

It's not just the fault codes that need to be read/cleared. The ECU stores adaption values (I believe for Vanos and ignition timing) which are affected by driving style - if the engine has been used conservatively in a previous life, clearing/resetting these adaption values should liven the car up - give it a good hard drive so the ecu can learn its new 'driving style'.

This made a massive difference on my S50B30, and more recently I've had the adaption values reset on my little M44. It was like driving a different car, much better throttle response, better pick up and much quicker.
