how to spot a real motorsport
Moderator: martauto
Hi, seeing a lot of e30 motorsport convertibles for sale recently of which I am very interested in buying, i know I've seen e30 convertibles with tech 2 kits from the factory, is there any paperwork or codes in the bmw vin decoder that means motorsport from the factory, or should a car that is a motorsport colour and has the correct interior be taken as genuine ? Any advice greatly appreciated

Such shit answers;
Motor sports have nicer interiors, nicer steering wheels (mine has the rare smaller mtech2 I found out today!), should have mtech suspension, LSD, Nogaro centred wheels, some came with hlww/intensive, OBC, manuals had the close ratio box, and mine also has the electro hydraulic roof which works a treat, as found only in the motor sports and e30 convertibles, Not like the problematic electric ones! Best way of checking is to give a bmw dealer your vin or reg and they should get its build sheet on the system!

One clue is to the colour of the car, they only came in
Macau, Negaro, Sebring, calypso and Mauritius and there are 4 variants to them, the early ones didn't even have a kit on them
The "shit" answer in the first reply was the one which can give you a 100% correct guarantee that a given e30 is a motorsport cab

What you need to see on the spec sheet from BMW is either option code 122 or 798 both of which are described as Motorsport edition.
That is the only definitive answer to weather is real or not.

Yeah apologies to the chap who first replied, it was the other useless ones that I regard as shit. I have a Nogaro Motorsport myself, I called up the local bmw garage, spoke to their parts department, gave them the reg, from that he brought up the build sheet of the car stating the date of manufacture, destined dealership, and every optional extra it had ticked on it, even down the the autoglym protection for transit! And of course the label stating it was a genuine Motorsport edition. He was nice enough to print it for me.Kos wrote:Most motorsport cabs have been pillaged so what they come with is not a guarantee that they are a motorsport cabloveland wrote:Such shit answers;
