So I have e36 m3 donor car. Can I some how fit the rear brakes on e30 arms? Cut and weld brake bracket etc?
Or no way is this possible?
Cheers.

I think you will need new bearings. I did when I fitted M5 brakes

Its possible but not without great difficulty i think, the easiest way would be to source a pair of Z3M rear trailing arms (which use the same larger bearing/hub & rear brakes)as the E36 M3, 5 stud of course, and i would say you eill have to have a pretty decent front set up in mind too.
Here's a pic of mine, although i will be upgrading the standard calliper to a decent 4 pot rear sometime soon.

Easy but I can't get hold of any and it's not cheap. I'll see what bearing I'll need and fit the evo hubs then make a bracket for calipers.
My e30 is a 318 auto so yeah won't be easy.
Yours looks great
And yes I have AP front brakes with 330mm 2 piece disc's
I want to keep it narrow as want 9" wheels and wide tyres for grip.

another solution if on a tight budget
https://translate.google.com.au/transla ... rev=search
if you go 5 stud, you just buy the bracket (top left) in the 1st photo from these guys, use your e36 m3 rear calipers and use below disc's, or staying 4 stud, buy the complete kit, or bracket again, adapt below disc, re drill to 4 stud and shim to hub size as in top pic, hand brake works as normal
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DRILLED-SLOT ... hrN1TErFIg
cheap as and you end up with 294 x 19 vented

Yes but you still run into trouble getting your half shafts to work out, Z3M are the only off the shelf solution for a direct fit, and then you need Z3M or E28 large case diff output flanges to bolt up to the half shafts... Complicated & expensive, far better off getting a rear big brake kit from somewhere like BG developments, HiSpec or as listed above, expensive but easily done.

OK cheers for the help.
So what about the standard disc size from z3? Will they perform well with 320bhp and AP 330mm brakes up front. This will be a track car.

If using a tandem master cylinder, you may find the rear brakes arn't actually doing a great deal at all. A bias pedal box in such an application would ensure you can set the brakes up so you're getting the best out of the rear brakes while also getting the benefit of the big fronts - which will do most of the work.
If using standard E36 Compact/Z3 rear brakes, an E34 rear caliper has a slightly larger piston size and is a bolt-on mod iirc. Increased benefit would be marginal, albeit better than nothing.
No reason why this won't work well for a track car imo.

Not really needed, the Z3 uses a 270mm disc with 36mm piston. More than enough for even a track going E30.
We have it on the back of an S50B32 powered compact and have not even come close to cooking the rear brakes.
Careful with the Z3 discs, there are 3 offsets, E36 compact, early Z3 narrow body and Z3 wide body (6 pot cars and all late cars).
Narrow body or compact trailing arms will go straight on to an E30 and work with about an ET20, wide body arms are too wide and the hubs too tall for what you want, ET40 and an 8.5" wheel needs arch rolling with them.

Your Z3M rear looks very similar to my Z3 6pot hubs and discs on E30 arms.
ET41 wheels 8.5" wide 215/45 tyre, needed a litte roll as well.

A pre facelift has a considerably higher archline than that of any facelift car though.

Great help cheers guys. Was worried I needed to get bolt on arches. Really didn't want to do that. I think a little roll and pull will be plenty

Small roll and pull should do it, I only had to fold the inner seam/lip back on mine and it really is out and nearly a flush fit.grants50 wrote:Great help cheers guys. Was worried I needed to get bolt on arches. Really didn't want to do that. I think a little roll and pull will be plenty
Enough I was worried about clearance when I first bolted it all up as it was wider than expected.
