My ECU needs replacing on my 1989 318i
I have found one on EBay with the same part number which is 0 261 200 157 (Brown label)
The seller states that it is from a 316i/318i. Apart from numbers will this just be a straight swap from my current ECU?
Thanks in advance

318i and 518i ECU's are interchangeable as long as they are M40. A 316i ECU will have the wrong ignition timing.
I have a good M40 1.8 ECU here, £25 posted.

157 is correct for a 1.8 engine. The equivalent ECU programmed for a 1.6 is a 174.

Surely that is then just a case of swapping the chips over from the 318 to the 316 ECU?
Same as with the M50TU EWS and non EWS ECUs?
