Hi all, been looking at this site for awhile now but not yet posted, but as i'll be getting my 1st bmw in 3 weeks time i thought id introduce myself and also ask for any tips or advice on owning a bmw. Im swapping my mk1 golf gti for a red e30 318is, its got 152k on the clock and is standard as far as i know. There are some faults with the car, 1. the drivers side lock does not lock it but will lock from the otherside and boot, i've read up about this fault and believe i need to repair the lock and there is a kit from bmw, does any one know how much this cost and how hard the job is? Also the electric mirros to not work, is this normally a case of a faulty switch. And the glove box catch is broken, is this hard to fix? Just trying to get an idea of how much work i'll have ahead of me.
Thanks for any advice or tips

Thanks for all the welcomes, and the offer on the switch ill keep you posted on that. Anouther question or 2, it has a manual sunroof, is it possible to fit an electic one and is it just a matter of swapping the manual winder for an electric motor plus the headlining cover. Also is it possible to retro fit the check panel found other e30's?

Greetings and Welcome to the Zone dude.
Nice choice of Beemer, can be a little trickier because it share some engine parts with e36 brother (although not exactly the same engine!) some car parts with 325 but generally rated as a nice little motor.

The manual roof can be converted to electric, a few people on here have done it, i plan to do mine one day soon, then I'll let you know what's involved!
No you can't retro-fit the check control way too much work, you basically have to re-wire most of the car!
Another 318iS - Nice !!!

Welcome to the zone, a nice choice of car to start e30 ownership with.
As for the repair lock barrel, its a fairly straight forward procedure just be patient and miticulous(spel?) with what you do. If i can do it with one that had a chisel or scredriver put through it i'm sure you'll be able to do it with yours. I think it cost abut Ԛ£12 trade from the stealers but my dealer had to order it in.
Enjoy you stay here on the zone.
