At what year did the sport model start using the mtech 2 kit? Are all the sport models de-chromed or just the later MTECH 2 ones? Thanks in advance as I've got a contact who is going to pick me up one sometime on this week.

ive seen a mtech 2 on an e-reg 1988 thats when i thought they changed from metal bumper.
Should be decromed, black headlining, map lights in rear view mirror and recaro type sports seats

A model especially worthy of note is the 1989/90 325iS or Sport. These cars had a subtle factory body pack, M-tech suspension, standard ABS, LSD, sporty interior and new bumpers. These cars were quite something.

Where did you get that quote from? is very wrong!stevetigger wrote:A model especially worthy of note is the 1989/90 325iS or Sport. These cars had a subtle factory body pack, M-tech suspension, standard ABS, LSD, sporty interior and new bumpers. These cars were quite something.
325is are NOT Sports!
325is are either USA (that didn't have close ratio box's + a load of other stuff-basically a standard UK 325i) cars
or 2.7 m3 challenging South African cars....

Thats why it says OR sport! 325is is an american version of the Sport! The mtec2 came about in 1989

yes both should be dechromed, and my mk1 sport has no map lights.
and they changed from September 1987 from preface lift to face lift.

just read my post, sounded like I was agreeing with the 1989 thing, i wasnt - thats utter bollocks, was definately late 1987. Get a tech 1, ive heard that these are going to be the more collectable and valuble.

There was actually a gap when facelift occured, meaning there were no M-teh II sports made in 1988, first ones came along in 1989, so no M-tech II sports should exsist on an E plate....and I'm no liar!Theo325 wrote:Yeah, mtech II came along when the facelift occoured, which was a late E plate, anyone that tells you any different - well its a complete lack of pies.

Really? ive seen several E plate mtech 2 sports being sold, suppose that just goes to show how many dodgy misleading adverts there are.

I've got to be honest, and I've seen a few sports in the time I've been interested...I've never seen an M-tech II sport on an E plate myself...plenty of 325i 'sports' with cream headlining on an e plate though!Theo325 wrote:Really? ive seen several E plate mtech 2 sports being sold, suppose that just goes to show how many dodgy misleading adverts there are.

look at the dates for the part numbers, tech 2 bits are listed from 09/87
maybe they made sports for places that exists outside UK
what with the world being a large place and all

Im pretty sure Simon is correct. Never heard of or seen a facelift sport on an E, lots of pre on an E though.
I would go for the M tech 1. Ive had both and although I dont like certain things about the pre facelift E30s I just love the kit on the M tech 1. Thaty boot spoiler and those side skirts look so much nice than the door mouldings and the rear spoiler of the M tech 2.
My opinion only.

Nothing to do with the UK, the M-tech II kit was in design in 1988 when the facelift occured, and wasn't put on the cars until 1989, the only reason for the date is because it was designed to fit cars 09/87 on!mrLEE30 wrote:look at the dates for the part numbers, tech 2 bits are listed from 09/87

I'm pretty pleased to say that many people mistake my car for a sport, due to the kit
the car started life as a poo spec 325 with keep fit windows etc. Car was built in Oct 87, so is an early facelift, kit was fitted by supplying dealer when the car was 3 years old at a lovely cost of Ԛ£2800!!!!
Car was registered on 01/01/88 and shares it's birthday with Zaust's ride.

Haven't seen that brochure, you'll probably find that the number plates fitted to BMW's in press shots are fictional, and don't actually exsist.Hap wrote:Simon

Hmmm, one person agreed...and quite a few people still don't agree...bit of an over-reaction me thinks!stevetigger wrote:So I said straight away 1989 and you all shout me down, Simon says 1989 and you all say " Yer thats right "

Guys listen to me!
theres was a small gap, but only a few months between models. They came out in 88. My mate has an Aug 1988 built tech 2 on an F plate, with an early chrome bumper engine! BUT his car was ordered new from Germany in UK rhd spec. Collected over there and driven home here. I got the spec sheet from him on it to prove it was a legit sport.
My sport was one of the first uk cars being registered in March 89 by Henry brothers Glasgow, build date is something in January 89
