Anyone no what bhp it produces? I went for a 2 litre as i thought it was more powerful than the 1.8 (plus it sounds nicer) But i was reading on another site that the 1,8 has 140 bhp and the 2.0 has 129 bhp, is this true? Also which model did the s14 come in?

M20B20 is 130 odd brake, the m40 1.8 is about 120, the m42 1.8 16v is 140 odd, I'm sure someone has the exact figures on file, but the 2.0 6 cylinder is the more relaxed of the straight 6's.

You can't beat the sound of the 6 tho :D , whack on a 325 throttle body, a zone chip, decent panel filter or bmc and you'll get a much better driving experiance.

Engine swaps in the form of the same block are simple enough, find a good m20b25 and enjoy near 170 for only a few hundred quid

Jonb's ya man your way, a very helpful chap indeed :D

If you've got a 320, keep your eyes open for an E28 525e in a scrappy.
(The e bit is important).
This has a 2.7 litre bottom end to it's engine, which will drop into your car with the 320 head and engine management bits fitted to it, giving you an engine a little more powerfull than a 325, with a lot more torque.

what sort of price would one of those cost? any idea how much the work would cost? Sounds good though, would you advise this over a straight swap?

And a lot more work and money, for admititaley better results.
2 litre head goes straight on the 2.7 block, as simple as that. 2.5 litre head doesn't fit without machining the block, different rods and/or pistons.

Non Cat equipped cars, manual gearbox. BMW Handbook figures for 1990 cars.

316i 102BHP 105lb.ft 0-62mph 12.1
318i 115BHP 122lb.ft 0-62mph 10.8
318is 136BHP 127lb.ft 0-62mph 9.9
320i 129BHP 128lb.ft 0-62mph 10.2
325i 171BHP 167lb.ft 0-62mph 8.3

not much between the 318iS & the 320i, apart from the fuel economy and some say the noise, but my hearing is shot....
1 & 2 bed flats in Bournemouth areas, with parking

everyone who comes near this forum immediately gets talked into building a 2.7, it's brilliant! :D
