Separating Uj's

This may be a really simple one for someone :o:

I'm going to replace my steering rack with the club sport rack but I have one question, how do you separate the E34 + E30 uj to make one without damaging the soft metal? :?

I'm guessing you take out these tabs then knock the centre through? :?
