Hi Guys,
Out of interest, as a weight saving measure on my 316 could I replace the standard battery with a race weight jobbie?
I haven’t looked at costing this up yet but just wondering if anyone is already running a daily driver and if there are any pitfalls?
Any suggestions or advice gratefully received,
Many thanks!
Race weight battery?

I think the best part of those little ones is the options they open up for tucking the battery away in another spot.DanThe wrote:I don't see the point TBH,only filling to half a tank would be more beneficial if you want to save weight
Soooooo good for single seater cars with limited room.
With a lot of these things it's not so much going for a big gain in one spot, but an accumulation of many little things can really add up.

My suggestion was more because of the daily driver/316 part and that no benefit would come from it in my opinion. Personally I would rather fit a larger more reliable battery to my daily driver.
If it was a track car for example then its a different matter completely, and as you say moving the battery elsewhere (low down/central) in the car is a big benefit in this case

Good point, wasn't thinking about the 316 bit
Guess a 316 needs all the help it can get.

I was running this in my race car
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... tery-pc680
... which happened to be a DD for a while (don't ask!!!). Seemed okay. Have a small power drain in the car somewhere and it flattened quicker than a standard battery, so I used the kill switch over weekends. It's been flattened completely a few times (not good for it) but has come back reliably with a donor start and a half hour spirited drive.
I bought something like
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performan ... g-brackets
and mounted the battery flat (it's dry cell so doesn't matter). Couple with the fact you need to change the terminals and find two screws to hold them in, and use some tape to cover the bare connections, jump starting would be stupidly troublesome. Except I mounted a B&Q outside junction box which I can take the cover off with some screws and crocodile clip the positive jump lead to there

...Bit overkill for a DD in my view to save 5kg or so, but anyway, hope some of this is useful
