The doris has called, M40 Touring ground to a halt after she put £15 of diesel into (naturally for her) bone dry tank.
It's a GSF tank and I can't recall if they have a drain plug. If not, do you think it would harm the pump if I removed the fuel feed in the engine bay and pumped it out that way?
I've done a search and note that I should change the filter and plugs and that I don't need to remove it all, just to get the majority out and brim with the right stuff.
Diesel in petrol misfuel, advice please

Won't hurt the pump as long as it's pumping fuel, but don't let it run dry for any length of time.magpie wrote:put direct 12v on the pump it won't hurt it , i empty all my tanks this way .
Don't worry about getting every drop of diesel out - the engine will run quite happily, albeit with a bit of smoke, on a mix with quite a bit of diesel in it.
I sometimes manage to 'acquire' the odd drum of fuel that has been removed by a garage or AA, RAC, etc., and throw the odd couple of litres at a time into a nearly full petrol tank.
Filter and plugs will be fine, although it may be worth removing the plugs and washing the oily, carcinogenic muck off.

Thanks both. I'll run a couple of gallons out and then put a Jerry of petrol in. When I see some petrol at the rail I'll connect back up and see if it runs.
I had already considered adding some diesel back in to give her a visible reminder of her failings.......

On the bright side,£15worth is only about three gallons, she could have brimmed it!
