As you all know I'm currently sorting out my tech 1 cabby. I have had a quote from the body shop to do a full Respray, that's covering all the welding areas too & removing all the little dings. What would you zoners think a average price for a full Respray be?

Depends entirely how much preparation you do. Deliver a fully stripped rolling shell to the body shop, and you'll save a lot of money.

I disagree with any prep for a repaint. If the the paint job is poor or has issues a few months down the line they will blame the prep

The same goes if you supply the paint

As for stripping the car, there's not much to it in all honesty. You may save a day or two labour at a push. The consequence of re fitting it yourself is that if you some how damage something when re fitting it (and screens/glass trims can be a pig) then you'll have to pay up to rectify they fuck up.

I am playing devils advocate here

What is the price range one should be looking at for a bare metal strip down and paint from a decent body shop?

Strip the car and do the welding and that's it

Let the body shop boys do everything else, filling, smoothing, priming and painting

Number of reasons for this

1. The will do it 100 times quicker and better
2. The like to do the full job and not rely on other people's prep work
3. As Kos said

Expect a total bill of about 3k if you got a good deal and a proper job. That's mates rates cash by the way.

Don't forget a case of beer for the body shop lads for busting a gut to make your e30 looks the dogs!

Im not going down the bare shell root, just going to get the welding on the lower arches done and where the side skirt clips into the sills welding as its started to bubble, considering all the prices you guys I've said i think I'm getting an excellent deal, will post updates on my thread within the month!!

Only do prep if you know what you are doing. Cock it up and the sides of the car will resemble a dog's hind leg.
Painting a car is 99.99% prep. Preparation is everything. Ideally, filler needs 2-3 days to settle before primer to avoid 'fried eggs' in the paint. Primer needs a day or two to settle before being blocked back and the top coat put on. If an oven is used it can be done much quicker but cheap thinners will result in problems later. For a perfect job it needs to be primed and blocked two or three times before paint.

A wise man once told me that the word 'painter' should be an adjective. Once I figured out what an adjective was, I realized truer words were never spoken ! :(

It'll be cheaper if you're keeping the same colour.
