The sun has knocked the green metallic on my 323i around a bit. No rust, but the paint has lost some clear coat and is dull in places. Has anyone else in Australia had their E30 resprayed? Were you happy with the job? Where did you get it done? What was the cost like?

Hello Xavier, I live in NSW and had a re spray on an e28 M535 in metallic blue, can say I wasn't 100% happy with the job and it was done by one of the supposedly GOOD spray shops in town, the paint job was good, just the refitting and final tiding up. No panel work or rust work needed as the car was in good shape, the clear coat was coming off. Cost was then 3800.
So from experience, the supposedly good spray paint shop is not necessarily the best, go round the shops in your area and check them out, what's the work area look like, is it clean and tidy? is their equipment looked after? Is it modern equipment? are the cars jammed in the work area or is there plenty of space around them, if they take pride in the work shop, then they take pride in their work. What paint are they using? Cheap paint = cheap job, then have a look at some of the cars they have sprayed, get close and look to see if there is orange peel, ect, some very small defects are ok if they fine sand the clear (usually around 2000 grit) and then buff, so ask how they finish the cars off, thats what you want to hear. See if they will let you talk to some customers that had work done a couple of years ago or more and see how the paint job is holing up. Hope this helps.

Ta. $3,800 sounds reasonable. I think checking out past customers is the go.
