Put one rearwheel in the mud, sand or on ice while the other is on asphalt. Without an lsd you'll be standing there spinning the wheel with the least grip when you smash the throttle. Or as said try a good burnout

The tag on the diff should have an S at the start of the ratio.
Or jack the rear up so both wheels are off the ground. Hand brake off and in neutral. turn one of the wheels by hand. If the other wheel turns in the same direction it's an LSD. If it turns in the opposite direction it's an open diff.

Better still, jack up one side of the car ,and assuming the brakes are not sticking, try and rotate the lifted wheel, if it does not turn, you have a LSD. The tag should be used as a guide at best. At 25 + years of age, lots of rear covers / tags have been swapped around.

The poorly 3.25 pumpkin is now with a known motorsport aficionado and is being fully freshened up and uprated to 40 % . The one tyre fire will be a thing of the past

He's certainly a much nicer person when he discovers a £200 turd has one fitted

Trouble with that is it could just be the hand brake stuck on.pacerpete wrote:Better still, jack up one side of the car ,and assuming the brakes are not sticking, try and rotate the lifted wheel, if it does not turn, you have a LSD.
If you jack it up so that both wheels are up you can illiminate that error.

That is why I specified that you need to ascertain that your brakes are not dragging. Obviously if your handbrake / brake was sticking on so much that you could not turn the wheel, you would probably know about it !
