Does anyone have it? Is it really worthwhile these days when the amount of traffic on the roads means it's not often that you get to drive at a constant speed for any length of time without the need to slow down/speed up? I've got the chance to get a kit and want it just because I don't have it, but that's probably not a good enough reason to spend 200 quid! What's people's opinions?

I've got it and use it a lot when on a run.

Saves fuel as well!

i've never bothered with this or A/C as a "retro refit" don't see the point .

i like to drive a car, not have the car drive me and an a/c kit weighs like 30kg +

I got it three years ago, but never got it working :?

Very hard to get troubleshooting advice on this system, since so few people seem to have it.

I have it and use it a lot. Very handy for staying at 30 or 40 MPH to avoid tickets.

AC is a must in a car with black leather imo.

The weight makes no difference to the cars overall performance and does not weight 30kg.

As for "I like to drive my car" well when you are sitting at 80 odd mph on the motor way your not exactly "driving" are you.

Agreed. Fitted it to mine (black Touring with black leather) and it made a world of difference to my appreciation of the car, even on little drives like weekend supermarket trips.

I think my retrofit cost about 350 quid with a mix of new/old parts, and it was well worth the money.

The disastra has cruise control. I love it, get to 70mph (with a strong wind pushing it up the motorway) hit the switch & turn radio 4 on. Great! 8)

Give it a try and you'll love it! Especially with the throttle function to go faster or slow down. If someone took mine away i would surely miss it!

Pointless IMO. The amount of times in normal driving that you can hold a steady speed for any more than a few minutes are virtually nil. I have several cars with it and I test it when I first get them and that is it. The people who get excited about it are usually the types that like gadgets and doo dads. If there was not a highly visible stalk, three quarters of all the retrofits would not happen ! :)

Bolax!

Tell that to Simon, he is probably the biggest advocate for cruise.

You can actually use it to accelerate and decelerate the car and again, i use it a lot in the E46.

Although i do like a gadget and retro fit! :)

At least all mine work Pete unlike others who just fit part for the "look"!

You have a 1400 Ashtray. You need an engine , not cruise* ! :)

You promised not to mention the non functioning 'driving lights' that I fitted to the '90 spec front bumper on my RS Turbulence lookalike van ! It was 1992 and I was worried that if I connected them, the current draw would be too much for the 54 bhp abnormally asphixiated 1600 diesel to cope with ! :)

I've decided against it (I think). It would go down as a "boring Sunday" purchase and probably sit in my loft for a couple of years before selling it on at a loss.

I personally love cruise control, I hate driving on motorways at the best of times but cruise control makes it a little better. I used to have a vectra I used as a tow car (it was cheap) I traveled all over the country with cruise control, worked well with the trailer on the back too.

I love it i spend most of my time on the motorway driving the car on cruise only. It saves a fortune in fuel in no time.

400 miles to a tank? Only with cruise control

Its an easy plug and play retro fit and a extremely reliable system. I honestly can't think why you wouldn't have it on a car

Its the first thing i do normally if a cars not got it like on my M5

Yes.. like my gadgets :D Most people do. It's what they call luxury you know? Goes hand in hand with comfort btw!

Who says you have to use it more then a few minutes? Find myself often using it for just 30 seconds through town at 50 kph till the next stoplight if that means i can ease the leg for a moment..

Thats like saying the centre console armrest, heated seats, mirror map lights and the rest of the doo dads are pointless. Even the stupid fire extinguisher for that matter! If it was that pointless they wouldn't have made it in the first place! Most people do not constantly use it but it's nice when it's there if it comes in handy

Maybe a highly visible stalk is easy to operate with one finger when in e30's correct location? You should tell that to Mercedes Benz who hide it behind the indicator stalk so you actually need to take your hand off the steering wheel to operate the damn thing! Even then it's a bitch cause the indicator stalk is in the way

Hired a van last week,first thing I asked the guy who walked me round it;

'Has it got cruise,mister?'

It was a Merc Sprinter,oh yes,it had cruise.
I set it to 60mph,and over 240 miles it returned more than 33mpg,result! :D

Cruise is the best retro fit I did on my e30. Cruise is one item you can fit and truly use.

All my own cars have had it for years, My missuses golf doesn't have it. And when I'm on the motorway with it, I actually miss it!

Thrifty,£40 a day plus Gorden Brown.

'64' plate high roof LWB,very pleasant place to spend a couple of days.

It swallowed almost all of my E30 parts stash! winkeye

I've got a cruise kit to go on the Dolphin e30, more of a gimmick to be honest as i only ever use it through the Hindhead tunnel or other parts where there is a camera controlled average speed section.

Cruise is not a "gimmick" if you can't see the benefits of the system then well theres an element of retardness to your logic.

If everyone used it on the motorway you'd realise how much the weapon in front of you not using it speeds up slows down and generally pisses you off plus all the extra fuel they use. But its not just limited to m-ways

The money saving part of it and making driving more pleasant makes it a no brainer?

90% of new cars have it and 90% of people don't use it, time the masses were educated!

Agree with you Si but sadly the roads are so busy today it's never on for more than a few seconds so I don't bother with it.

90% of my driving is in rush hour though.

i swap lanes a bit :D

an a/c compressor isn't light nor is the bracket that holds...then all the pipes ,fan, extra rad etc....

ever weighed a full kit :?

Well if you're gonna do what you doin in your signaturepic then yes such a thing would not come to your benefit. But in that case i suggest you also ditch the powerwindows, sunroof, rearbench and all the rest of it if weight is that important! That rear spoiler is 2 tenths mate although it might give some downforce :D
