Where is the engine number on a 325i block please?

on the bottom of the left hand side of the block either in front or behind the dipstick tube depending of year.
thats left as if youre in the drivers seat btw. or nearside if you know the difference lol

I dont think either of my two blocks have an engine number there. On mine the only number is just below the top of the block on the inlet side.

Adam, i think your thinking of the block casting number.
Every engine should have its own unique serial number stamped on it, try looking alone the bottom edge of the block, just as it meets the oil pan on the passenger side of the block. The number is probably buried under rust / muck, give it a light clean / sand.
