Firstly I have to make clear this is NOT a "for sale" ad in any way shape or form...
However, the annual renewal of the (agreed value) insurance is due soon and I have to complete the form that states the value of the car.
Last year I valued it at the cheapest car on sale at the time (£18,500), but the insurance company reduced that to £18,000 stating that I needed an independent valuation if I wanted to value it higher. They also require an independent valuation if it goes over £20k stated value.
My car is an early 1987 195bhp Euro model. Henna red, houndstooth (country cloth) interior, manual sunroof, extended range tank, electric windows, rear blind, 6-btn OBC...all factory fitted.
Modifications (all declared): Baffled sump, Fully balanced, lightened bottom end, Evo 2 inlet cam, ported, polished and matched head, inlets and manifolds, later type thermostat and fan control. Powerflow custom exhaust, Black Diamond front discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads, AVO adjustable shocks, Faulkner springs, 16" BBS wheels, Powerflex bushes all round. Matter front strut brace, replica Evo sport rear spoiler, 7-series clutch master cylinder. Alpine CD/Tuner head unit, Pioneer front speakers, Blaupunkt rears.
The condition I would say is good to very good...it isn't perfect but there is no rust in most of the usual places...there is a bit around the rear number plate lights and a bit on the drivers side floor around the rubber grommet for the main loom. Paintwork is OK and all original. Drivers' seat side bolsters are a bit worn/torn but the rest is good.
The cheapest car actually for sale that I have found is £24k and I'm wondering if this is now a reasonable and accurate valuation.
Any Opinions?

Any pictures?
But as your insurance has required, I would personal have the M3 independently valued.
