Hi
I have stripped my engine bay of the m10 engine gearbox, wiring loom etc and wanted to deal with any rust issues and replace anything worn before Iput the m52 conversion in as it seems pointless taking shortcuts whilst the engine is out.
I have removed the engine bay insulation and found a small hole and some Ruston the engine side of the dash, as well as the passenger side next to suspension strut (under the fusebox) I have sanded these back to bare metal and plan to get these plated shortly.
I was wondering if its worth stripping the gearbox tunnel insulation off and if so whether I should terraseal this check for rust etc. Also shall I replace all the insulation in the engine bay and gearbox tunnel as it looks tired.
Is there anything else that is worth doing?
I sprayed concentrated traffic film remover on the engine bay and jet washed it and its come up really clean.
Thanks
Matt

Under the fusebox is a common area for rust. I doubt very much if there is rust in the tunnel area. But battery tray area can give some issues and under your scuttle panels.
Post some pictures up and we can advise where to look, I have done a full resto so can advise.

I agree with bigbird..Ive just done this myself and the tunnel area was clean. Rust around the fusebox is common. I ditched the whole thing and haven't considered replacing it. Of course my engine was pulled out and the car completely gutted so this made the whole thing very straight forward...
