Sad day in the House Of Jesus

During my fit of de counciling my drive the Touring was next on the hit list.

Having been part of the family since 2002, carried my family around for over 110,000 miles (final mileage was just under 280,000 miles) and brought home my first born from hospital it was time to say good bye.

The B25 and interior now reside in my new Touring. The tin worm had taken hold of the sills and I couldn't see me ever getting her back on the road, just don't have the time.

So now engineless and with no interior and much broken and worn it had to go.

Had to be craned out which was a bugger because this was reflected in the amount I got paid for the car. £40

Still, better than a kick in the chops, and they took the broken B20 engine as well, which was stuck in the middle of my drive as I had no way of moving it.

Most depressing thing was losing the WIB9123 reg numbers, not worth sod all but had sentimental value, originally on beaten up Chromie the wife and I had years ago.

End of a long story and lots of family (and E30zone) memories

Sorry to see it go- reckon you could have blagged a fair few more bits off it before they came

Tell you the truth Neil, there was quite a lot more that could have come off, but I don't have the time, and really wanted it gone, a whole car sat there was fine, but one bits was just too council!

I did remove the MTec2 steering wheel and Cd player

If you have to say goodbye to an E30, it's better to scrap a dead one that you got good use of, rather than sell on a good one only to miss it forever. How many "have you seen reg no T999URD?" posts do we get?

That last photo's awesome though, in a before-and-after way

On the face of it some parts look better than they are, lights for example, the silver inside isn't great, all adjusters broken etc, not worth trying to sell.

You could say that, weddings, funerals, births, holidays, work, school runs, cool runs, caravan runs, the list goes on, and never once did I get bored. I was in a position 6 months after buying it to buy a "new" car, could of spent 5 grand on one, but I couldn't find anything that matched up to what the Touring had, so didn't bother and just paid off the remainding £750 I owed to my best mate who sold it too me. Best decision I made too!

Not many Si, I think Brian has one with 286,000 or thereabout, sure is a lot miles though.
Still, onward and upward, new one has 155,000, only another 131,000 for me to match it.
I'll be in my 50's by then

Red one in my sig., but sadly that's dead as well, having met its end courtesy of a flying porker, just a few miles from its birthplace.
That has a reg. plate of sentimental value, and possibly a bit of monetary value, as well (1474RU), and I might just bolt enough of it back together one day to get a MOT cert. for it, so that I can transfer it onto something else.

Regards the reg plate, that's what I would like to have done, but sadly, it required too much work to be able just squeeze through another MOT.

As I've been told, the number is most likely lost forever, but i'll still hold out hope that DVLA may sell it on!

I could of course bent all the rules to retain it, of which i have ways, if it was 15 years ago and I didn't have a wife and children, there is no question that it what I would have done! I just need to keep things all straight and legal these days!

The LH front wheel on mine sits about three inches further back than it should, but that's no concern of the MOT man.
Remove the remains of the power steering, wedge a headlamp unit into the remains of the LH wing, and set the beam pattern up for both sides, and it should pass. Needs a shoulder charge to open the driver's door from the inside, but the MOT just says it has to open, not open easily.

There are bits I left, such as steering items, heater blower, abs pump, but TBH I just don't have the time to strip it to the shell.
Course, you'll see a wanted ad in two months time, steering rack, heater blower, abs pump!

Provided it does everything it needs to in the arch without touching the arch then any grounds for refusal are subjective.
alignment and lengths are not checked and the car is not driven.

Legal tyres, working brakes and steering and happy days.

There is "inappropriate repair or modification" I believe now but that is down to your tester.

If you have a friendly mot man, who knows you just want the plate, and scrap it, it shouldn't be a problem...

DVLA will almost certainly sell the plate on, I'd expect it to go to auction though, so keep an eye out there.

Best of luck clocking up the miles on the new beast.

The clearance problems were cured on the forecourt of the garage that recovered me off the autobahn in Germany. Main tools were a porta power and a large sledge hammer.
Front passenger didn't have a lot of leg room on the journey home!
My MOT man is fairly tame (if he wants his supply of extremely cheap BMW parts to continue), so I don't anticipate a problem.

You said a few times in my rebuild thread how you wanted to get back to work on her, Im sad to see it wasn't to be... Hope she is replaced by something as worhty!

Well, it was like this, I realised time wasn't going to allow for a rebuild, as much as I wanted too, just too much else on. So, whilst looking for a replacement for my Tranist, I happened across an identical Touring with the exception of a shot 320i engine attached to a lazyman gearbox.

So I bought it

The car is in great condition, not perfect but very good and much better than mine.

So junked the 2litre and lazyman box and pulled the 2.5 with man power gearbox and put it all in the new one. Same with the interior, put all my interior it as well because I prefer it, sports seats and such like.

So whilst I didn't have time to rebuild my Touring, the heart and comfort lives on in the new one

The one in the last picture.

So now I have a sterling silver 325i Touring back on the road, and a new totally inappropriate works vehicle all in one

Wonderfully good news and much more logical than my mad rebuild...so happy she was replaced by another e30! Good clean one too by the looks of it!

Bad title on Ebay reduced views I guess. Just got the servicing left to do and I can drive it, can't wait, gotta be more fun than my Transit!

I've come to terms with it now, though I had hoped to service it today, but 4 days before Christmas and my kitchen still looked like a workshop with plasterwork and mess everywhere, I could of course used my workshop outside, but that's also a mess, and cold

Still, sorted now, maybe in the next few days I can get a chance to service it

I remember driving down from St.Albans on a Friday night after work and pulling an all-nighter with you to remove the engine and box out of that blue 5-series, installing it in your touring.. then pulling it out again and changing the box, then putting it back in again.... and then driving all the way back home again

I was absolutely finished by the time I got home!!!!

Damn straight good times you Welsh Tuesday! That was a busy weekend and a successful one too, watching you drive off with half a ton of 5 series scrap crammed all over your leather interior was priceless!

And no, still not service my new steed, been a little short on time and money after the Christmas period, getting desperate now, it's just sitting and waiting to be driven, still won't be long.
