How many "Neon" run out models were made ?

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this question ? Every now and again I see a for sale ad on the www saying "This car is one of XXX ever made". Sometimes it's 200 or 250 etc etc. So I'm curious to see if the community here know the figure. Thanks.

there were 200 neon blue cabs made for the rhd market and 50 for the lhd market.

Those are the numbers that are mentioned often here. However, I've never seen any first-hand sources for those numbers, and the fairly large number of neon cabs broken for bits both here and overseas would suggest a lot more than 500 were produced.
