Hello,

I have a 318i 1987 with an auto 'box (which I want to keep).

I like it the way it is, except I'd like a bit more power.

Here's the question (sorry if it sounds thick):

Can I just fit the top end of a 318iS engine to the top of my M10B18? With all the ancillaries obviously.

Sounds like a nice way to get an extra 40bhp.

Cheers,
Jona

Moredoor autos with small engines are cool - but my new m20b25 is awesome!

Don't think so. If only an extra 40bhp was that easy :(

No, but why wouldn't you just fit an m42 anyway? Probably be cheaper by the time you have bought a head, head gasket, bolts etc

I don't think an M42 will bolt up to an M10 auto box, so he'd also need to change that.

Skipped the bit about the auto. I'd want to be getting that changed anyway

Thanks chaps, I just thought if the sumps were interchangeable the bottom end may be the same - and its already attached to the auto box, prop, etc...

Am I right in thinking the displacement is the only thing similar between an M10 and a M42?
