Hey
new to this forum stuff so bear with me
After much searching for the right one finally got a e30 coupe.
Got loads of little jobs I want to do but my first issue is fly wheel rattle!
its got a e30 m3 evo lump in it with a drift works lightend flywheel and sach clutch less than 1000 miles old.
On idle in neutral with the clutch out when warm it rattles like a gud un!
I've read up on this a little bit & there doesn't seem to be a sure fix?
Is there one?
Is my best bet sticking a standard dual mass back in which I'm more than happy to do if it means everything runs smooth?
Cheers
e30 with m3 evo lump, lightweight flywheel issues!! Help!

a soild flywheel won't rattle, if it does you've a serious serious issue! sounds like the normal bmw gearbox chatter in neutral to me.

Its normal on all bmws with the layshaft rattle. The duelmass just takes up the vibration from the engine so no rattle nothing to worry about just leave it be. If like simons says does it all the time when in gear and driving id be worried.

Solid flywheel, but is it a solid clutch too? Use better oil to stop the gearbox rattle

Cheers chaps
There is no rattles or gear lash when driving so that's all good.
There's some very useful information on www.uucmotorwerks.com explaining why a single light weight flywheel with create gear rattle or lash and ways to reduce it.
Hope this helps

Out of interest, is there a fix for this common layshaft rattle???
Mine has quietened a bit since I changed the 'box oil, but just wondering if something can be replaced to shut it up completely???
Or would it just be a case of replacing with a quiet 'box???
(I don't know much about gearbox internals, obviously!!!)

Oil was replaced earlier this year with: Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 synthetic manual transmission fluid.
Did quieten the slight whine in 5th, but layshaft rattle appears to be the same!!!
I'm open to suggestions of suitable oil that might quieten it down!!!
