was just wondering, ive got a new chip on the way and apparenty u get more revs.
my question is, if you went over the red line and over 7000rpm is there a rev limiter on e30s?
to be fair i dont really like to take it much over 6000 rpm anyway but would be nice to know if there is a saftey net!

I think the rev limiter is set by the chip.

I'm sure a couple of people here have removed the limiter altogether with the use of a chip.

7,000rpm is not very wise unless oil is fully warmed up, and even then it's not the best of ideas nor is there really an advantage to it.

mines 325 tech 1 sport and the chip will be from ant so ill ask him.
like i say though i dont ever hardly go above 6000rpm, dont like stressing the engine out that much.

The rev limit is set in the ECU chip, when the engine hits the rev limit, it cuts the ignition until the revs drop. (i think)

The rev limit is set by the ECU hence if you chip it you can get the limiter raised.

I have done so on my 318is which now hits the limiter at about 7k rpm.

I personally wouldn't like to have it removed all together just in case
