I've had my E30 for nearly 10 years, I do love it, but its at the point where it needs to be restored before the tin worm gets any worse. I dont have the time or space and need a daily drive.
The question is does anyone want to buy it? Or any advice
I'd hate to see it parted out.
Black 325i with genuine MTEC 2 bodykit
Recarro seats - driver side is scrap though
Black Headliner
Smilie headlights
BBS allys including spare
OBC
LSD
194k miles - speedo was broken for a few years so its probably 200k
Leaks on both passenger and driver side into cabin, needs a new sunroof, needs a new boot slam pannel - thats got a hole in it too.
MOT on tuesday

I havent done any research on the price as I'm not sure I can bring myself to sell it.

is it a genuine sport, as that may well save it from the weigh bridge if the rust is quite bad.
the best bet would be to get some pictures up, as folk can giver a better appraisal. it sounds like here are some nice parts on the car though so it may break well.

IMO, mileage is too high and it requires a bit too much work. I'd frag it.

Important point, as this will have a considerable effect on its value.Rich320I wrote:is it a genuine sport,
Take the VIN to a BMW dealer, and they will be able to tell you the original spec.

It's a shame this country is in a situation where people choose to frag a car with good potential than save it

It is simple economics Soni. 10k spent on a 2k car, often = a 5k car.

That's what alot of people quick to frag old cars don't think about, then kick themselves a few years down the line when they realise the prices they are fetching, and think 'if only I'd restored it/left it in a barn, etc.'
A neighbour of mine some years ago scrapped a Mk1 Escort and Fiat 500, both cars which would have been worth preserving.

By then £12k cars will be £25k!!pony wrote:But what about when it eventually becomes a £12k car (if it does)?
IF it were to be a £12k car it won't be for a v.long time!
200k mileage and probably an owners list as long as my arm? On a rotten 325i with some Sport bits thrown on it?

I agree with the short-sighted viewpoint but if a rusty car is left in a barn for a few years you'll be needing a dustpan and brush to collect what's left. These things need restoring or fragging whilst the bits are usefulSpeedtouch wrote:That's what alot of people quick to frag old cars don't think about, then kick themselves a few years down the line when they realise the prices they are fetching, and think 'if only I'd restored it/left it in a barn, etc.'

Yes, but modern-day 'scrapping' invariably means crushing and completely destroying a car, rather than piling it up in a yard to allow useful parts to be removed.

Oh I don't agree with that!! The scrapage scheme was short-sighted lunacy imo, someone had their palms crossed with silver to come up with that little gem!Speedtouch wrote:Yes, but modern-day 'scrapping' invariably means crushing and completely destroying a car, rather than piling it up in a yard to allow useful parts to be removed.

I guess it depends whether they need immediate income now or are willing to wait a few yearsSpeedtouch wrote:That's what alot of people quick to frag old cars don't think about, then kick themselves a few years down the line when they realise the prices they are fetching, and think 'if only I'd restored it/left it in a barn, etc.'

Indeed, some pretty decent cars, including BMW E34 M5s were mercilessly crushed.suchy wrote:Oh I don't agree with that!! Its a genuine sport, shown on the V5C and the original driver handbook. I thought I had the original bill of sale, but that appears to have gone missing. Will sort some pics out toay

Restoring will be a labour of love and not for financial gain if someone is willing to take it on. An original good condition Sport will always command a higher premium that a high-miler resto but you probably realise that! Get some pics up of the horrors, might not be too bad

True. However, many cars seem to get needlessly scrapped/fragged when the slightest little fault occurs. I suppose many owners don't have the ability to repair them themselves, and are put off by high garage labour prices.

I would say you need to get the sill covers undone at the bottom (the clips easily pull off with a small screwdriver) and gently prize the cover away a few inches to get a good look at the state of the sills with a torch.
I expect the floorpan will also have holes if it's been letting in alot of water - could be worth having the carpets up for a look-see...
