I'm looking for advice here, ...I'm holding a really beautiful cromie rolling shell, I've already had it for a year and a half, don't have to sell financially or space wise but have been seriously thinking of moving on. The question is this : It's lapis ( doom lol ) blue, non sunroof cromie / Bronze glass/ no cracks at all in dash with immaculate paint, even under the arches, fitted with .46 lsd , poly's , H&R's / Bilsteins, immaculate beige cloth sorts seats and that's as far as I've got. Basically the body's beautiful, Interiors beautiful / crome's good but at the moment it's a rolling shell although i have all the running gear to make it a 325i. I have inspected behind 1/4 panels / glovebox etc and it's immaculate, Do i hold it for a few years bearing in mind it's not a sport ( started life as a 316 non inj auto ) or get out now ? I'd seriously be interested in opinions here as no matter what i do it will always be a 316 auto converted. Do you see values of upgraded cars rising much more in the next say two - three years or do you think move on now, given its in a dry garage and not costing me anything to store it?

I would say stick a price on it and put it up for sale if it does not reach what you think just keep it till it does and yes it will rise in price as the years go on.

There are plenty who would value quality over covenants, if it's that good it's a valuable item. Whether it will rocket up medium term is questionable, but up it will go. It's really a choice of whether you need the cash or the space. Personally I'd keep it, if you sell it you'd struggle to find another.

Plenty more fish in the sea, like Millions were made

Flog it, take the cash and save it for a rainy day

We are not exactly tripping over rust free shells are we???

I'd say that we are not yet in a position to say rolling shells are worth big money. Yes it has a value but as we know from experience, good, rot free, unwelded ORIGINAL, non molested cars are starting to fetch money now, and not just 325is or sports.

this is an indication that a good rolling shell will have it's day so if it is truly rot free, had no welding, has a legal V5 and is straight, I'd be chawing the morsels off it to sell now and holing it up for another couple of years or so, then market it.

if modern cars get any more complex (self parking???) theres going to be a migration to simple older cars for people doing low mileage. my sisters 2008 Mercedes ml280 needs a new computer part at 1800 quid off Mercedes and it needs programming to suit the key and master brain of her poxy diesel chav chariot. when that cars 12 years old will the owner have 1200 quid spare?? keep your shell, you may find its value is linked to the migration back to simpler cars for people who value style and dont feel the neighbours RangeRover is aspirational.

Thanks for the comments guys, I've decided to hold on to it and all the bits to build it to 325i spec until either a: I admit i'm too lazy to build the damed thing or b: it becomes valuable enough that i don't have to. or C: i actually get the urge to do it which in my case will likely be when family are round and i need an escape !

Not to hijack the thread but its a similar dilemma I've been having too. Either buy a 318i chromie in mint condition and transfer all Sports bits and bobs over which will be cheaper but still a 318i converted or buy a ropey Tech 1 Sport and spend £££ tackling the rust.

I think as time passes more and more people will be after these shells when their Sports rust away and aren't worth repairing, this has been happening for a long time with Stags, minis and Escorts.

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
