Folks, had a look at this E30 325i M-Tech II over the weekend.

Wondered what people thought in terms of true value-?

It's up at £9450 which is absolute top dollar for this model, however I have my doubts”¦

-It looks the business but has had a full repsray.
-105'000 miles
-Evidence of rust in the floor of the boot, albeit localised.

Otherwise it is a nice example but is it really worth that top line figure-?

Any thoughts much appreciated

Looks tidy BUT it's a Scottish turd and contrary to the sellers BS, it has no OBC and it is sterling silver, not lachs .

If it is as nice as it appears, it would take more than 6k to make your average 3k hound this nice.
A very careful PPI / autopsy is needed to ensure that its beauty is more than skin deep !

I'll take the Scottish comment with a pinch of salt but thanks-!

Yes, you do wonder about the repsray as good as it is. What was that hiding-? If there is rust in the boot is there rust elsewhere-?

But then you get heated seats, which is an unusual optional extra. Quite a few Sports didn't come with the OBC, for some reason. :?

Pity about the car phone holes in the centre console, but that could be replaced easily enough.

The only thing rustier and more foooked than an English sport is a Scottish one ! This applies to any and every car. There are exceptions to the rule but very few.

I don't think Pacer is trying to offend you. All he is saying is the weather's not too kind up in Scotland... :)

Also, the seller is wrong with the description "Now seen as the ultimate evolution of Hofmeister’s seminal designs of the
”˜60s", since the designer was Claus Luthe, and the E30 was designed in 1978.

Does anyone remember the fooked IS that Paul bought and the timing chain went after a day? I am pretty sure this is the same seller. The location for the photos looks to be the exact same place.

Cant remember his user name now but he bowed out after buying the carbed turd that was rotten and his bill at Boys got very large for welding.

I almost commented it was a very dodgy looking mtech 2 and it infact looked more like a red iS, then I realised it was your avatar... it's definitely not the website that's shite, it's your eyes man.

No, it's the website. A mod had to fix it as the user interface is shite and doesn't act upon changing the avatar. So shut up.

Have to say I agree with the above”¦as good as the car looks there are alarm bells with the respray and evidence of rust, as little as it is.

Car was on the zone many years ago and before that spent a number of years with an enthusiast in Cornwall i believe.
No centre armrest in rear for this one either IIRC.

Hi CSL, that's very interesting-are you fairly certain about that-?

When I looked through the histriy file, which is substantial, it had spent a lot of its life in a dork and (Glasgow, Aberdeen”¦) but I think I did recall a time in England.

Can you remember the owner/zoner-?

The price has been dropped £200

Scottish turd with over 100k miles and had paint? I would only be entertaining it around the £6 to 7k mark. If you are willing to spend money and want a good car, wait for one

Well here we go again, typical zone "experts" doomsaying again. pics won't load for me, so how bad is the rust in the boot???

Why does it matter that a 20yr+ car has had a respray?? Don't see a problem myself. If it was under 3yr's old & had a respray then yes I'd be wondering. Ever thought that the paint might've been old & faded/scratched? & the seller just wanted to freshen it up?? Ever thought of that??

If you got the money go & have a look at it, take a mate or someone local off here with you to go over it, DON'T go in asking to take the kit off, remove the carpets as some on here would tell you as most sellers will tell you to fuck off.

Like I said, just take someone local(ish) who knows what their looking at & take it from there.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

I'm guessing the respray matched with rot/rust in the boot, signals that when the respray was done, rust wasn't tackled.. meaning the recent paint could be masking a lot of issues which would of been visible with the original paint.

You would happily hand over £9k for an E30 where you hadn't checked the common rust areas???

Only a seller asking top money for a shite heap would tell you where to go.

I checked the obvious rust areas but just as a recap where should I be looking again-?

Have to agree regarding the point on the respray-why didn't it catch the boot floor”¦strange that.

98% of E30 have had paint work so that is hardly a reason to not buy the car . There may well be plenty of other reasons !

James, if I was paying top dollar (£10K+) for an E30 would be going over it with a fine tooth combe. How would you feel though if someone you didn't know from a bar soap rocked up & wanted to pull it apart? You wouldn't be too happy.

Fook me!!! I find myself agreeing with pacer!!! Think I need a lie down.

Exactly my point. £9k isn't a cheap E30, so kit off and carpet up. Telling the OP not to ask about looking under the kit or carpet is bad advice, and as you say above, advice you wouldn't follow yourself.
For me, alarms bells would be ringing if a seller got funny about me checking these areas on a £3k E30, let alone a £9k+ E30. As Pete said, a £3k hound would quickly swallow £6k.
steve_k wrote:How would you feel though if someone you didn't know from a bar soap rocked up & wanted to pull it apart? You wouldn't be too happy.
I have had thoughts about selling my Sport over the last few months. Mine has nothing to hide and I'd be asking for good money, so it really wouldn't worry me if someone wanted the kit off or carpet out, in fact I'd recommend it to any potential buyers so I could prove its all ok - it would be me removing the bits though!

With the way prices are going, there will be plenty of people trying to sell crusty Sports for top money - these will be the sellers who will get 'offended' when buyers ask to take a closer look under the kit or carpet.

If you sold your sport what would you ask and how does it compare to the one in this thread-?

This one is pretty high at £9250 with those miles and the respray-?
