hi guys (and girls)
I need a little help putting a price tag on my car, details are as follows
1985 / 6 bmw E30 320i automatic (made in 85, registered in 86)
2 door coupe in bahama beige (am I right in thinking this is an uncommon colour)
generally very good paint work with a few blemishes
51469 miles, genuine and guaranteed through old MOT's and service book
immaculate interior
very clean under bonnet
engine runs perfectly (no surprise)
auto box is very smooth (no surprise)
3 former owners
factory sunroof that works perfectly and seals fine
electric windows and mirrors
rear "pop out" windows
all chrome work is in nice clean condition, no pitting
few small stone chips on the bonnet
has rear lip spoiler in black and the SE skirts in black
rear BMW mud flaps, I have the fronts but they are not fitted
original dealer reg plates in nice condition, dealer rear window sticker intact
dealer sticker in boot next to tool kit present
full tool kit in good condition
I have put my 16" borbet A wheels on it but I have the standars "bottle tops" aswell
I will up load pictures soon to help.
I am un decided weather I want to sell the car or keep her.
unless I am offered £20,000 then its yours haha.
thanks for your time and help

Any photos. For cars this age it's all on condition, originality and provenance

These cars are incredibly difficult to value.
There's a huge difference between an 'insurance' value and a 'sales' value.
A few photo's would help us to help you,of course.
Low miles, low owner count,FSH all help.
But at the end of the day, your car is worth exactly what some-one else is prepared to pay for it and one of the specialist auction house's may be a better bet for an honest appraisial.

I wouldn't say eBay is honest appraisal
A good advert
Lots of pics
Details of service history
Advertise in Pistonheads, car and classic etc
I was offered £20k for my E46 M3 CS so does it mean its worth that ?
If I put it on eBay I may / may not get as much

I will upload pictures tomorrow, aslong as the weather plays ball.
I was going to use the car as my daily but it does seem a shame to use it and add miles, wear/tear

It's your car, but those wheels are sacrilege.
If you set up an advert, it's in your interests to put the bottletops back on. The kind of people who will pay the higher end for a period, pre facelift, clean E30 will be put right off with those wheels. You'll only attract chavs and modders.. who will probably only make insulting offers.

Those wheels ruin a lovely car. You'll just get pestered by scumbags if you advertise it with those still on. Stick the bottletops back on it.

true, but, is what alpina did to bmw's considered sacrilege?
im not comparing myself or my actions to the mighty alpina, but they took a perfectly good car and changed its appearance, performance and handling characteristics.
I know they were/are a bonafied partner (as such) to bmw, just saying some times modifications aren't always a bad thing
for every person that wont agree or like borbet A's there is the same number that love them

Although the people that usually love them do donuts in retail parks with their friends, and then go home to their council estates.

we all have to start somewhere in life
I wouldn't change my council estate up-bringing for anything, I know much more of real life than most of the silver spoon tossers that govern this country

I'd say stick it on ebay - this is a nice low mileage one and it went for over £4K

Yours isn't that far off this one - if you put the original wheels on and take it to a posh location to photograph it, it could do well.

I'm no expert but that depends on a lot.. how bad those blemishes are, and the paint work overall.
Most importantly if there's any rust, and that's not just superficial rust but underneath the carpets, the bulk head, roof etc etc.
I've seen clean low mileage cars like this go for £3-4k but then the people who brought them for that price may now have E30's, so don't want one now.. or may not want to buy one at the time you're selling. So depends on what the audience you have, at the time you're selling your car, are willing to pay.. and THAT is how much your car is worth.

I think I will put the standard bottle tops on her. that way I will save £600 on the borbets.
I will advertise it at £4500 and see how much interest is generated, you can always go lower not higher.
thanks for your help

Beautiful condition and amazing mileage for the year. The original look should be worth more to someone looking for it, and so I'd agree it deserves to have original bottletops on it. Or failing that, whatever style was an option at the time (14" or 15" BBS ?).
For what it's worth, I have a very original look 1991 cab and thought twice about changing the bottletops. I compromised by fitting 14" BBS, rather than 15" (it's not a Sport after all ...).
I am not the expert in these circles when it comes to guide price. Not very helpful I know!
