Need some help in valuing a car offered to my brother, here goes:-

H reg 320i convertible (facelift model with larger rear lights)
Manual
In alpine white
Indigo blue leather (crakcked but not ripped) inc 4 headrests
Blue hood
15" bbs alloys
197k. With full service history
Runs really well
Same owner passed 7-8 years, total of 5-6 owners iirc
Underneath is all solid, a few little bits on the body, but not rotten at all
Recent tyres on the rear
All bushes etc been replaces
Ericsson car phone that works
Original blaupunkt stereo
Long mot, short tax

I have tried to convince my brother that it has way too many miles, but the car looks really good and drives fantastic.

What's it worth ?

Thanks

My guess is £1500 to 1800

Only a guess mind you, not meant to cause any offence

I was going to say £4k taking a stab in the dark
If all the service history, mileage and paperwork is pukka then mileage shouldn't be a problem I would imagine
A lot of e30s are clocked anyway I should think ?
Main thing is condition, rust, etc
Check the hood works properly as is expensive I think ?

Pony I should have sold you my 325i cab if you think a 200K car is worth 4 bags.

I got £2650 for my 1990 pre-facelift Royal Blue 325i cab which I sold last year, 160K on the clock, lots and lots of history, tax discs etc. Full leather, switchable sports auto box, tech-1 front and rear bumpers and rear spoiler.

There was no visible rust and totally sound underneath, good blue roof, freshly refurbed wheels with new mid range avon tyres, lots of engine work including new gaskets all round, o rings, seals, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, injector refurb, TPS and AFM configured back to factory spec all filters and fluids including the diff and gearbox, exhaust, shocks and springs, discs and pads and a whole lot more.

Apart from the usual car park dings it was a really good car by the time I sold it on, not quite so much when I bought it for £1500. I spent way more than I ever made back on that car and that was me doing all the work myself.

Only low owner low mileage cars command decent money.

This is how it looked when I sold it on:

Please ignore pony's comments. Lsd, 15k, all nonsense.

Rust is the only thing that matters on these cars; all the mechanicals are simple and cheapvto fix in comparison.

A clean car might be worth 3k since it's the end of summer, but closer to 2k is more reasonable. Expect 500+ for the hardtop though.

"A few little bits on the body" can mean all sorts and vary so much, few "little" blisters/scabs on wrong place on rear arches, and or rear panel joins etc, can often be dismissed as minor by sellers, but have a detrimental effect on price

And it would be amazing if one day ... A what's it worth thread popped up along with some nice pics !!!

ML sold 325i convertible for about £15k
And no it didn't have delivery mileage or a spare wheel made out of gold

£15500 actually.

Barry, you're well aware of Munich Legend's opportunistic pricing strategy towards cars of all types, not just E30s, and their ability to serve a 325i cab for over 15k is hardly indicative of the current E30 market... especially in relation to a high mileage slightly scabby 320i cab with a damaged roof.

If I make a mistake i'm ready to admit it (we all know the wiki's full of them), so i'm not sure what you think i'm full off, other than boredom of pony's lsd fixation.

This thread is to help the op value a car, and some answers here are less than helpful.

I would not say ML's pricing strategy is opportunistic at all. The price is decided on several factors which obviously include the condition, mileage, history and spec of the car, what the owner wants back, the cost of work needed needed to get the car up to scratch and current market values of similar cars.

The fact that a very low mileage 325i cabrio sold for £15k is indicative of the way the E30 and classic/sought after BMW market is going as people are willing to pay proper money for the right cars.

As a well known zone saying goes "something is only worth what someone is willing to pay". Well it sold (within a day of the ad going live) so that means that's its worth.

It's not a one off either, some trader had what is arguably one of the most sought after 325i cabrios, a calypso with lotus white Motorsport with 69k for £16995.

Indeed pony's ramblings don't bare much relevance to a close to 200k mile 320i cabrio but my response was in relation to you shutting pony down about no 325i cabrio is worth £15k.

I'm sure you're well aware that threads on this forum can go ot on tangents away from the op's given subject.

Pony made a comment loosely relevant to the op which your reply was deemed to be full of it.

Your ramblings about 325i sports also fall into the same category and there have been remarks where I've thought WTF?

No ones perfect though.

To round off, the E30 world does not revolve around the bubble that is the zone full of people with £1500 turds maintained with second hand frag.

Sounds like £500 to me . The tough bit will be trying to draw a profit out of it , even at that price .
