Inspection light help!!

I was wondering if anyone could help i have an e30 318is 1990, just recently the engine inspection/oil service light has came on yellow now has turned red. Does any happen to know how to get it back to its original green. Also is a oil change vital or do i get the light reverted back to green? Please message me any help will be massively appreciated! Thank you:)
