Was thinking of taking my E30 around Europe next year with the missus. France, Switzerland, Germany, maybe Austria.. Anyone on here done this? Is it wise?
Cost wise MPG will obviously be the equivalent of a first class cruise around the Caribbean, but this aside..

Brianmooore is a walking Bentley manual, so he would be pretty confident of his car being up to the job. Me on the other hand

I did that earlier this year, drove non stop from Cardiff to Worthersee, Austria. Spent a week there then over the next week stopped In different places on the way to the motoGP at Mugello, then came home via Munich and Hamburg.
Was easy enough, apart from a new fuel pump, rear pads and clutch m/s everything went as planned =-)
I covered 4,700 miles over 3 weeks

Trouble with this is that most (all?) only cover recovery costs up to the value of the car, in the same way that they'll only repair accident damage up to a certain proportion of what they say the value is.diable wrote:Get decent cover with recovery to the UK.
Take a spare fuel pump, a crank sensor, a reel of self amalgamating tape and a length of wire with a crocodile clip on each end, and an E30'll won't let you down.
Fuel pump was the only failure* I've ever had in Europe, and that wasn't an insurmountable problem, in spite of not having a spare, since I could run the car exclusively on LPG instead.
*Not counting the time when the front corner of the car was destroyed by a flying Porker, but even then, after a couple of days with a borrowed sledge hammer, a porta-power and a lot of gaffer tape, I drove it home.

It is great,, i have done it many times,,, in my BT,, but renting a good diesel 2.0 tdi or bigger is a fuel bargain that we cant deny ,, vs our M20,,M30 ,, and the midrange accl is stunning,,
you are well covered ,, if you buy what you think is the best for you,, etc etc

Oh yes I can deny! My 325i touring, running on LPG, costs a similar amount in fuel per mile as any diseasal.S38B38 wrote:renting a good diesel 2.0 tdi or bigger is a fuel bargain that we cant deny
