This is now causing major problems
Febi have stopped making them, and as the BMW roundle is machined off the casting on these, it would suggest that is where BMW have been getting them.
The only good thing is the design of the pump means that it is very unlikely to just 5hit itself, pressure will just tail off.
To check a used one, undo the four 10mm bolts on the pick up side, examine the machined surface on the opposite side of the pick up for scoring, the fingers of the cogs for pitting, and the main body where the cogs sit, for again scoring around the edge and the bottom.
Any damage will reduce pressure, and there will be some. I have machined the back of the pick up in the past, but I cannot do anything to the main casting.
I have spoken to Andrew at Ireland Engineering in USA and they are looking at getting them remade. But this is in the future.
New old stock, and good used ones.

Pete, not sure which model it's from but there is another oil pump
which is considered an upgrade iirc.
" Most upgrade to the M21 oil pump I believe, from a 324td"
Lifted from a Danthe post.

If you offered me £1000 for a new one, I would have to decline. You can't get them!!
BMW have no stock.
The last 3 I have built have had: a NOS one off ebay, and 2 good used ones. The one was a very not standard
