M10 1987 Baur Auto

For some very strange reason this car started life as an injection and was converted over to the Webber, Why and when I have no idea.

My guy who looks after her stripped and cleaned it out and it runs so much better but room for improvement remains. This is now staying on the car .

Would a re-furb kit be beneficial and how much are they and where do I buy one from.

I take it that the Webber is a standard replacement whatever that may be.

Cheers Mart.

Which carb is it? There should be an ID number on it, e.g., 34DMTL.

Rebuild kits start from around £20 on E-bay, but some don't contain everything you need - you may need to pay up to £50 or so for a decent kit, which are available from the likes of Webcon (Weber Concessionaires):

http://www.webcon.co.uk/shopdisplaycate ... &cat=Weber

Or other specialists such as Ricambi, Autostoria, etc.

Oh, and BTW, it's 'Weber'.

Assuming it really was a 318i, personally, I would be spending my money on finding somebody scrapping an early M10 318i and returning it to original.
You will gain 15 BHP as well as superior performance, starting, fuel economy etc etc.

As above! It really is time that carburetors are consigned to museum exhibits and the odd historic racing series.

Tell that to those with concours 316 E30s.

Carbs are OK if set up properly. But some are definitely better than others.

Like I said its staying on even though the original loom etc is still in place.
I was looking to make it run a little bit smoother when standing and dont want to spend much on her as I will be doing less than 1000 a year.
Thanks for the input.

Mart.

I would remove the lid of the carb, remove the jets and emulsion tubes (taking a note of their position), and use carb cleaner to thoroughly clean them and relevant parts of the carb body.

Also take a note of the size numbers stamped on each jet and emulsion tube, and check to see if they are of a suitable size for your particular engine.

Also remove and clean the idle jet and mixture ('volume') screw, and ensure the idle mixture is adjusted correctly, as this affects the performance all the way through the rev range.

Current issue of PPC(Practical Performance Car)has a very good article about DCOE Weber's,how to strip, maintain and tune.
Takes a lot of the mystery out of the things! :D
