Hi,
333i b32 with turbo has decided to have a leaky radiator. As it stands I was looking to upgrade to the e28 radiator to make room for a front mount intercooler as opposed to the current side mount. Was looking to do it in the winter months but now it has forced my hand.
Had already purchased the radiator a month ago, and the new engine mounts from (300mm.de Tino) as the current ones (Alpina)do not push the engine far enough back for the clearance for the e28 radiator. Also need to either get my sump modified (also Alpina) as it will not clear the steering rack. Or purchase an E32/34 sump and oil pick up not 100% on what is required here. There also is as I am led to believe on the b32 engines a pipe at the back of the head that needs moving but not sure if this is already done on my car as it was factory M30 engine.
Guess what I am asking is anyone around the Romford area who have done the whole M30 conversion, who could give us a hand or even better have garage facilities. Car is garaged but garage is not wide enough really to do the work inside but could be done on the driveway at a push. Or even a good look over someone elses might help me along the way.
cheers
Had my hand forced on my 333i turbo anyone in Romford area

Don't chop up the unique alpina sump and mounts!
Just use a a normal M30 sump.

ok do you know if it is just the oil pick up that is required to match the e32/34 sump or is the whole oil pump and drive that is required. Want to try and get the bits required. Current pump set up is working perfect so would prefer minimum disturbance in this area.

I can't say for sure but I would think the pump is the same.

you would save a LOT of hassle and time by shelling out for a new Alpina Radiator or have yours re-cored/restored...
this will work out cheaper than altering everything you have there just for the sake of a front mount intercooler.... if your trying to up the boost it maybe a bit too much for the old M30 ?
As Barry stated your car will have the Alpina mounts and sump I would rather keep them and lose the turbo
this car has been around in it's current modded form for some 20 years it would be a real shame to go about altering it with E34 parts
I still Have your number Graham, I will give you a call tomorrow ?

Hi Alpina mounts and radiator will stay in my garage and be avaulable for the car. Alpina radiator is £400 but will need the outlet moved to the front as I dont think it comes from the front so bit of fabrication required there. I have been tuning the car and it suffers under boost with timing being pulled due to elevated inlet temps. There are a few bits on the car that should have been done better, when the intercooler was installed way back they were always dissapointed with how the split RS500 intercooler performed but nothing was done. It is hiding behind the headlight area with eight or so 10mm holes drilled in the plate behind the headlight trim far from ideal airflow. Heatsoak is also a problem with temps well above ambient even when not under boost.
Here is a picture of the front of the car dont think the pipe position on the bottom left is standard.

Have took the sump off today in preparation for the e34 sump and oil pick up. No varnish or sludge present
Also see evidence of balancing of the bottom end

Boost is currently set to 18psi, not got any need to turn it up at the moment but it is in very safe hands. I have corrected bits on the map that were miles out and very dangerous for the engine and bad practice.
I here what you are saying but orignality went out the window back in the early 90's, dont worry its not going to end up with an ironing board spoiler and scooby scoop on the bonnet
