This is a long one. I was giving Murphy the benefit of the doubt on this one and not out to rip me off as he seemed like an OK guy and I could see that he had sold and bought quite a bit of stuff on the zone and especialy that he knew what it was like to be ripped off, as he was with a MTECH 2 body kit a while back and he needed fellow zoners to help get his money back. Murphy had a thread in the for sale section advertising parts from his 318is that he was parting out. This was the add but he has deleted it so there is no reference http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... t=#2747693. There was interest in his front lip. I PM'd Murphy to see the availability here's his reply
MurphyE30 wrote:Hi there,

Yes still available :)

Lots of interest but no money has been exchanged yet

Cheers
So I would pay him the £87 in to Paypal

I will change advert to sold

Next PM from Murphy read

Apologies but I will have to refund your money for the splitter. When we went to take it off this weekend we noticed its fibreglass not plastic.

If you still want it I'm happy to knock £25 off the price.

You can't tell the difference fitted to the car. But I like to be honest with what I'm selling

Let me know and I will send the money back accordingly

Cheers
It shoul be poly carbonate so I said I would still take it.

A week later no Splitter had I arrived I Pm'd him and his reply

Just been down the post office this morning and looks like I've put the right address but a different post code. :cry I do apologise must of wrote wrong one by mistake when labelling my parcels. I've sent out quite a few recently.

I've got to go to the parcel force deposit and collect it this afternoon and I will re send it tomorrow with the correct address and post code from your last pm.

: cheers
this was on June the 11th. Which was the last I've heard from him and the last I've heard about the lip

:x I have tried to contact him through PM's on here and the email used on Paypal but no word. as I said in the beging of this thread I was giving Murphy the benefit of the doubt, maybe something had happened to him or something, it looked like he hadn't been active on the zone since he sold his strut brace back on the 19th of June but after contacting another zoner on here that knew him in the hope that he could get through to him the the thread has been deleted which in my book seems VERY suspect. Another draw back giving him the doubt and leaving it so long it falls out of time to get the money back through Paypal case! I have put this thread on two forums so that it can get maximum exposure.
Denis.

Mate, that's bad luck sorry to hear that

If anyone buys stuff from anyone .......always always ask for their FULL contact details.
If the seller doesn't provide, walk away

In this case i would raise a small claims court case

I think for the small claims, as you say, you need to know a little bit more about them.

I've made the rest of the Mod team aware of this, so it'll be discussed in due course.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do in terms of helping you get your stuff or your money back, but we will get in touch with Murphy to find out what's going on, and see what we can do to prevent this happening in the future.

denis9 wrote:Hi, two traders on here have told me that you know Murphy very well and live close, one i chatted to told me how you helped Murphy out when he got ripped off by some body that sold him a MTECH body kit. The mods are involved in this now. It would seem that Murphy's for sale thread only disappeared from the forum after I PM'd you. Can you talk to him, I cant get through to him. If I get my money back, its only 62 bloody quid, I'll wipe the slate clean and delete the posts.

Denis.
what ? so i'm a liar am i !

i live in consett...murphy lives in ashington so i wouldn't say 30 miles or a 45 min drive is close ...It's common knowledge that
all for sale threads are automatically deleted 6 weeks after the last post on one ....Murphy could not of Deleted a thread with replies on it any way ....you try and delete this one now i've replied on it ...As i told you in my pm that i do not have Murphy's number ,he contacts me or just turns up at my house randomly when he wants to buy e30 parts or needs work doing...i have no need to call him as we are not bezzy mates and i'm not round his house all the time asking his mum if Murphy is allowed to play out !

i did once save a number for him but it was dead when i tried to call it so deleted it . the other "TRADERS" you have talked to don't know me,my movements or anything about me other than what i put on here so how can they say i'm best mates with Murphy ? .....yes i did help him out when he got ripped off over a body kit because i'd like to think i'm a nice guy so please don't infer that i'm a Liar ....now i suggest you wind your neck in and go through paypal !

here's Murphy's m-tech bodykit thread ......please do read it .

Magpie, my necks not out and I am calm, don't think i'm a bad guy, just trying to sort it out. In your PM yes you did say you didn't have his number and I'm sorry to imply any wrong doings concerning the thread being deleted, I didn't count the days as the last contact I had was mid June, some what shorter than the 60 days and I was only going on what other traders had said about you Knowing Murphy very well. I have read Murphies thread in full and I would say that he seems like the reliable guy I had thought he was when I first contacted him, as of you and all the other guys on the forum that over the years I have come in contact with. That is why in my first PM to you I was more concerned that something had happened to murphy seeing that he'd just disappeared and because returning the first £25 seemed pointless, if your going to rip somebody off you might as well go the whole hog!
I thought there were some very poinient things said in that Thread.

guess somethings are to good to be true. be assured i will not be buying anything anymore unless from a trader or well respected zoner.

which by the thread I would have thought Murphy was.

another one was

and for £550 i'd be fuming!!

so c'mon SPEEDYRIEDYBMW man-up and do the right thing.

Murphy is a Good lad who Works hard and Saves his money for good parts to build his car up to how he wants it. £550 is a large amount and wasn't plucked from the money Tree in the Back garden!
your so right money doesnt grow on trees. As for trying to get through to Murphy I'm getting nowhere so what am I supposed to think Adi has said he disapeared for a long time before. I didn't want to publicly involve you in this. I am just trying to get to the bottom this and sort it out one way or another. Certainly wont be driving a million miles and banging on his door( if I had his address ) for £62. Which by the way is the amount of money I'm short of to buy your offer of the front lip. Thanks for that it is appreciated. If something happens and you do still have it I'll be staight on it but lets not hold our breath.

The guy's obviously done a runner. Doesn't matter how reliable people appear, unless I know someone I wouldn't put anything past them.

Everyone knows his name now, so I can't see anyone else falling for it on here.. Even though it's a waste of money you've got to just take it on the chin hey.. You live and learn and all that jazz.

I did try but unbeknown to me Paypal has a 45 day limit to open a case and because I waited giving the benefit of the doubt I passed that limit.

I bought engine, box, prop, ecu etc. off him a couple months ago. Seemed like a nice guy and all went pretty smooth but after sending the engine he hasn't followed up and sent any comprehensive history at all for it. He read the message where i asked but hasn't read the last one I sent him.

The parts look sound but I haven't had the chance to fit them yet.
