Motor Insurance Database (Askmid) gives make and model from the registration, as do sites like ECP and GSF and online insurance companies. Apart from that, you need the VIN, as this is specific to the car, whereas the reg. can change at any time.

You are generally fairly safe with Tourings as they attracted / attract a better type of owner, especially autos
If I had a pound for every Sport I have owned / worked on / autopsied , that has had a 'safety conversion' I would be nearly as rich as Trev, the E61 driving executive c0000nt !

For a Newish BMW you can get the chassis number from the VRM via BMW Insured Warranty website

Type in "161BMW" and you will get the VIN for BMW UK very own E46 M3 CSL
