where can i get an obd tool for my e30 to read any fault codes and such?

Same place you get magic beans and unicorn food.

The ECU in most E30s is so primitive that you might as well try to read the smoke signals coming out of the exhaust if you're looking for "fault" codes.

Well engine dependant you can get some basic fault codes from the DME fitted to some E30's.

Sept '87 on M20's, M42's and M40's can be read.

BMW DIS reads them as did an old snap on scanner i had.

Not that i am aware of but i guess the early motronic 1.0 cars could be hooked up to the very old BMW service tester for some basic diagnostics.

So aren't the fault codes meant to be read as part of BMW Inspection II Service ?

Mine is Motronic 1.1 I think ?

Doesn't the latest BMW service tester connect to them ?
I find it odd only works with the old ones as I thought the new diagnostics would cater for all old BMWs from when OBD was first introduced to BMW vehicles

Yes where possible/applicable.

Nope!

The latest ISID doesnt even connect to any E30 where as its predecessor BMW DIS would.

I want to get the M3 CS read

At ML it was spitting out fault codes
They cleared it but said to keep an eye out should the fault codes come up

A lot of codes are stored in modern cars when there isnt anything actually wrong. Some times just codes stored for occurrences in the cars systems such as alarm triggers or brake fluid level low for example.

Yes was seating heating and Double VANOS. This had New Genuine BMW Double VANOS @31k mileage / 2012.

have you tried the stomp test? Turn the ignition to the "on" position and press the gas pedal 5 times. The red check engine light in the cluster will flash in succession
