They aren't as terrible as some tyres out there, but I wouldn't have them on any of my cars

I once bought a puegeot with a set of brand new ones on the front and there are worse tyres out there.
I've heard they give a nice look when you stretch them too

Surely a 'brand' can be bought for similar Shekels ? Kumho / Falken etc are acceptable mid range tyres , usually reasonably priced. When I do an autopsy / PPI on a turd and see Nankangs, it flags up tight / disinterested owner. Obviously you are neither ! So go on, treat the turd

They now make them in the correct E30 staggered Alpina sizes

That's the ZE912s that are £100. The newer (and far superior) ZE914s are a lot cheaper.Cloggy Saint wrote:I currently have Falkens but they've shot up to nearly 100 quid a corner on camskill! Maybe I'll give the proxes a whirl as they seem to be many people's tyre of choice, although they're the same price as the Nankangs which makes me a bit suspicious.
My local tyre place recently fitted me 4 at £61 per corner. I've been pleasantly surprised by them. They're far better in the wet than the older version. Quiet too.

Toyos are OK but a bit soft for my liking. They wear quick.
I normally go for Vredestein Sportracs but couldn't source 4 this time. For the price I thought the Falkens were worth a shot and they're fine in everyday driving. Kumho KU31s aren't bad for a similar price but are a bit noisy as they wear.

My Minor Traveller has a pair of Nankangs out back. Can't really fault them.
I had a set of near-new Avon ZV3s on a Tech 2 Sport, which aquaplaned - quite a problem with them, so I hear.

Indeed, with the mighty 65bhp MG Midget donk, matching close-ratio gearbox and open diff, it's quite capable of wheelspin action if provoked.

That was in a saloon, which I sold last summer, to a local enthusiast who had great plans for it. Must pay him a visit sometime...

I used to have NS-2s on a previous E36 and they were reasonable to be honest. Didn't fall off the road and die in a ball of fire! They are certainly a step above ditchfinder Wanli, LingLong etc. They did struggle a little when pushed but if otherwise very adequate for day to day driving.
Noticed on Camskill that they seem to be cutting alternatives such as Kumho, Falken, Hankook by £10+ per tyre. I've had very good experiences with Kumho (KU31s on the E30) and Hankook (I*Cept winters on the E36).
I've just fitted a set of new tyres all round on the E36. I ended up going for these:

£69 in 225/45 R17 flavour (+£10 each to fit at my local place). Properly impressed so far.

Me and my dad are both running the kumho KU39s on a mondeo (18") and a v70 (17") and have found them to be good, both cars tended to eat the inside edge of tyres despite having the tracking checked on both but with kumhos both have been fine and seam to grip well lb the wet and dry. 100% better than the accer????? Scrap which was on there, they were just dangerous!

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Nankangs are fine. Anything controversial/away E30zone status quo the only people criticising them haven't tried them
I'll be getting the new NS2-Rs for the E30. Had NS2 on multiple cars and wouldn't hesitate again.

Nangkang used to be a ditchfinder a few years ago, then they started to get involved in drifting and have come on leaps and bounds.
the ns2r is up there with the toyo r888.
ok not as good as the toyo, but a fraction of the price, and remember the toyo is a track day tyre.

Nankangs arent half as bad as they used to be.
Also found camskill prices really high, have been using Oponeo lately and their prices have been pretty good.
Anyway just to annoy you all i have just bought some ling-longs for my car

Bridgestone Turanzas on my Fabia at the mo. Got fed up with replacing Uniroyals/Proxes every 10-12k miles. The 'stones were about £10 a corner more expensive, fitted from local supplier. Can't fault them for grip, wet or dry. I get about 8-10% better mpg on a run which means I'm quids in already. If they last 16k or more I'll be very happy

If you don't drive balls out 24/7 then the nankangs aren't a bad tyre I'd buy them again if there is a big price jump to a premium tyre

How is it on the road or do you trailer your E30 to the track?

They do have a fancy thread, which I rather enjoy looking at on my car.Cloggy Saint wrote:That's good to know. I've heard mixed reviews of the proxes, I think a lot of people get them just for the sexy tread pattern!
But as darkchild said they do wear pretty fast. I think I may ditch the proxys come next renewal...

Would it cost another 45 quid to fit them?

The last set of 15's I bought cost me just over £35 a tyre, I think that was around 2010 and it was a reduced price.
But they used to hover around the £50 mark for years, which is where a tyre that wears out so fast should be IMO
