I bought a new key from BMW via my vin number and when it came 3/4 of it was right but the tip looks like they forgot the extra digits it was a long shot that the lock set are original but as they are so close I think something has gone wrong.
Now I made the dealer aware of this and they said they would email the key department and get back to me.
I didn't hear anything and was passing today and thought I would drop the key in as they said they might have to send it back to that department, just to be told he has my new key. Surprised I checked it just to find the exact same problem and to be told I now owe them for the 2nd key I'm a bit pissed!
Here is how close the 2 keys are old and new

The reason for this thread is to see if I can get a dealer to cut me a key to my tumbler codes as I have rebuilt one lock so I know the numbers or can they shed get some more info on my key to try and see if there has been a mix up is this a service key or something.
Any help would be appreciated

Yes it works in all the locks I am rebuilding all my locks eventually and thought id like to have a fresh key to match.
The main thing I'm narked about is having 2 keys at the cost of £40 for the 2 and neither work.
Since posting this iv got plenty of spares from the kits I had bought for the drivers lock etc and rebuilt a lock and matched the key tumblers to the keys supplied and found they have been so badly cut that if you use them one way they work rotate them 180 degrees and they don't work

The key at the rear (going by what I can see of it) looks like it is the 'valet' key that was supplied with new E30s.
This key should fit the ignition and door locks only. It should not work in the boot or glovebox locks.
Could this be the reason for your problem?

I thought that too Brian. It looks like either their original records have been entered wrong or someone doesn't know how to cut the keys right.
Without the fat tip on the key you can't even put the key into a glove box iv checked this as I have lots of old random keys and they will all at least go in even if they won't turn but this key won't even start to go in.
Also now iv made up a lock to suit this key it has shown a pattern which is too close to be a different lock set from the factory.
All the pins on the right of the lock match my original set but on the left side they are all exactly one number out.
So my original pins are 3343 and the supplied key is 2232 that is way too close to be some random lock pulled out of another car and fitted to mine
