Some advice please.

My driver side door lock won't lock with the key.

I read on someone's thread can't remember who's, that you can repair the door lock. You get a kit from BMW is this true? Or should I just replace the lock?

Yes you can get a door lock repair kit from the dealers. It is a modified version of the old lock which was prone to break but the kit will fix that problem.

Visit your dealer and ask for an E30 lock repair kit.

They will have to order it in,if they are in the UK it should be next day, stuff from Munich will usually take 3/4/5 days.

Last kit I bought was about £20.

Easyish to build up,there should be a wiki guide if you search for it.
What you get is a bag of bits that enables you to build up a new lock to suit your key.
