These days,you can only tax an un-taxed car 2 days before the end of the month at the PO.If it's already taxed,you can re-tax it up to 14 days before the end of the month....
On-line,you can only tax from the 1st of the current month,unless you are re-newing a currently taxed vehicle,when..etc..
As Brian pointed out,if it's not sorn'd in your name,you will be liable for tax from the date you bought it.

Unless it's been off the road before 1998 and therefore never SORN'd in which case you don't need to SORN.daimlerman wrote:
